Hi From the Golden State

Recommended Posts

Hi. This is my first posting, although I 've found some valuable information on this site in the past. Thanks to all for your openness.

I had Lap-Band 02/26/06. It has worked o.k....I'm down 5 sizes and about 40+ lbs.(From 247 to 205) However, I have had more pbing and vomitting than I ever have. It sucks. I have talked to my DR about removal but he has been reluctant and only wants to adjust. Tomorrow I go back to see him...I've come to realize that it's time to get it out. I can hardly keep anything but liquids down and I'm experiencing severe and frequent headaches.

I am thankful that I have lost the weight thus far. I am just tired of the drama...too tight, too loose, burping, vomitting, "soft foods..." etc.

Even knowing what I know now, I would still have gone through with. I guess we'll see what DR says..

Thank you for listening...

Hi, I am sorry to hear that you are having such problems. When I got my first fill, I did nothing but PB for two weeks. Then, I started using a baby fork, taking really tiny bites, chewing my food to absolute mush and waiting between bites. That seemed to work. Just curious, what size band do you have and how much fill do you have in it? Is it possible that your doctor was overagressive with the fills and you really are just to filled?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
