This is my first "this time of year." Haha. I've got another half coming up in June, and then my first full marathon is November. I went ahead and signed up for the RocknRoll San Antonio marathon. That should be a blast.

U DID IT?! Wtg on signing up for a full marathon. That's inspiring! I kick myself every time I think about the stupid marathon I was supposed to do in march. Stupid health issues. :( the frustrating part is that I could've done it by using the Galloway method. Grrr. But, I digressed! I'm so excited for u. RocknRoll will be a blast. Renea77 just did the rocknroll half in Washington, D.C. I can't wait to do one. I wanted to sign up as my birthday present for Vegas, but my dh bought me a bike! That's a story for a different time...

As for the time of year- it's just the beginning for u, u running machine. I'm loving it. I got started in July last year and this year I've been able to participate in the spring runs. Love it!! I get the full season of races instead of just the last of the summer ones. :) so far, so very good!

DadTo2- you are so inspirational with so many competes coming up this year. I hope racing in competitions (for me) is a natural feeling, that the expectations are not too high. I signed up for a few 5k and 10 k starting in June until September. Not sure what to expect.

I search on google just by typing in location keyword and race type keyword. I found quite a few local races by doing this.

Runners world has a race finder. I use this and active. I officially registered for a Mother's Day event. Check out my apparel! I'm scared out of my mind, but massindex and Lisa:) were encouraging. Guess what's next for me?

Hi I have being reading everyone's posts, looks like everyone is doing a fantastic job. I started running back in late sept early Oct. did my first 5k in Nov. I've done 9 5ks and today ran my first 10k. My official time (from web site) was 1:12:15 . I don't have anything to compare it to. So I guess I am going to say I DID A DAMN GOOD JOB,,

I am training for a 1/2, I haven't registered for a race yet. My goal is to run a race or two every month.

Something that did help me in this race and the last 5k I'd to run/walk/run, that was something I read when BTB mentioned it on MFP. I did improve my time in the last 5k and didn't get to exhausted in the 10k.

I will continue to pop in and read your post. Thank you for all the advice and knowledge you share

GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE THAT HAS A PENDING RACE

Okay, so I did my first "official 10K race" today in Ft. Worth. I say official because I have run several 10K distances in my training so far. What upsets me about this race is not how I did, but the fact that I don't think the distance measured for the 10K was actually 10K! I started my GPS tracker as I was crossing the start line, and I was not hitting the distance markers like I should have. What's worse is that When I crossed the finished line, I had actually done 6.41 miles instead of 6.2! Really screwed me up trying to get a PR in the 10K.

Here is what they have me officially in the race (I'm number 7 down):

Mayfest+results.png

And here is what Runtastic (My GPS app I use) says I did:

Mayfest10Kroute.png

Here are my split times from Runtastic:

Mayfestsplittimes.png

So it leaves me to wonder, just what was screwed up here? The race distance or my GPS? I started the GPS right as I crossed the start line, and stopped it just as I crossed the finish line.

What do you guys think?

Dadto2....I don't know much about that run you did. But when I ran the Conoco Phillips 10K they specifically said "we don't care what your gps says, this is an official distance and it's accurate"

That being said, I'm sure not all races have such exacting distances and measurements so unless they gave y'all that same speech it's likely they made some small errors marking off their 10K. A lot of it is going to depend on the experience of the volunteers who are organizing the run.

Yay...another run/walk/runner!!! I am still doing this on all my long runs and as you said, I have much more energy at the end while improving my overall time. I am doing another half in June in Irving, TX and I'm going to continue to use this method and see how much I can improve on my time, as well as increase the enjoyment of the whole thing. Then in November I'm doing the San Antonio Rock and Roll marathon and my wife is doing the half marathon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
