One week out and struggling with emotions

Recommended Posts

I am a week out from surgery (well close) I was sleeved December 4. Today has been a horrible day as I have been an emotional wreck and honestly was wondering if I made the right decision. I have been very tearful and the full liquid stage is depressing. Does this pass when you can go on to purees and honestly in my mind I just don't want it to always be like this. :) Any advice would help.

It really does get better and better each day. I am 11 days post op and find myself irritable and emotional. I think it is a normal reaction. When I started on puréed foods I did feel better. Staying hydrated and getting Protein in truly made me feel better. I still am emotional - feel like Icahn cry easily. I don't know why but have a feeling that it simply comes from all of the stress that our bodies have been under. I had to stay in the hospital five nights. But I definitely can say that every day I feel a little by better.

I am sorry that you are feeling bad and hope you feel better and better each day.

I hope this helps somehow and I am wishing the greatest success for you!

I was a horrible mess from day 5 through day 12. Crying, irritable, angry and had a case of buyers remorse at the decision I'd made. I was convinced I'd made a mistake and ruined my life!

Now I'm 8 weeks out tomorrow and loving life. The weight is coming off, I'm feeling better mentally and physically than I have in years and I'm SO excited about life in general now!

The 1st two weeks are a b***h, no way around it. You've just gotta go through it to be through it. Hang in there and stick to your doc's plan. I PROMISE it'll be worth it and you'll get your mojo back in just a few weeks. {{hugs}}

YES! YES! Just be patient with yourself! I remember crying HUGE alligator tears when I couldn't eat whataburger with our softball team at 2 weeks out. Now, I eat like a normal "thin" person! I eat healthy food in small amounts and I can have Whataburger sometimes. You are going to be normal again. Just keep telling yourself this is just for right now and soon I will be normal again only wearing several sizes smaller- so worth it!! You are in the very worst part of the sleeve process right now. Hang in there!

Your body has just been through major surgery (trauma) and all kinds of things are going on. The second week was by far the most difficult, and I see that as a common comment here. Once you get through the first few weeks it really does get so much better. Be gentle with yourself during this time.

There may be a few other spots down the road over the next few months where you may feel blue. Giving up food as comfort, recreation, soothing, entertainment, etc. is challenging mentally and emotionally. This is a good time to start thinking of things that you can do to pamper yourself that don't involve food, and start thinking of non-food related goals and rewards to keep your spirits up and motivate yourself. Any day now that sun will come out again and you will feel so much better!

It is sooo comforting to know I'm not the only one feeling this way. You spend several months researching , preparing ..... thinking that you're ready, then Boom! The first few days I was feeling good about everything, then day 5 set in and I hit blues city... I am 10 days out today and this morning am feeling some better. Started full liquids yesterday, so maybe things will keep getting better and better for me and for all of us. Happy Holidays to everyone and God Bless.

I'm still pre op so I don't have any advice to give only support and encouragement. I hear everyone say that this is what to expect at first. I'm so dreading this stage! But it's been proven that it too shall pass. I pray it gets better for you. I'll be in your shoes in 70 days, I'm lifting you up in spirit and praying for a swift recovery! :) sending hugs your way!

I even questioned if I did the right thing which I know I did however wow this first stage is hard. I go for my two week follow up next Monday and I get to advance to blended purée that day. I am sooo looked forward to it. I talked to my nut today and he gave me an awesome recipe for a Protein shake its chocolate Protein with 2 teaspoons of creamy Peanut Butter blended and it tastes divine. Just like a Reese's cup. I will be having it again tomorrow.

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

        Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
