5 weeks and weight loss has stalled

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on November 30 and have lost 24 lbs. I have not lost anything for the last two weeks and I am terribly depressed and worried I'm not going to lose anymore. I feel like a complete failure, I have tried to do everything the way I was instructed. I do have trouble drinking all my Water and the Protein Shakes make me sick at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to get my weight loss going again. Thank you for any comments!

Well I dont have any suggestions. However I can tell you it happens to lots of us. I had a stall at 5 weeks. And I thuoght the same thing I cried and was depressed. But it does not last forever. And I am 5months out. And I have lots of stalls. I just have to wait them out.

I had a stall that started at week three and lasted for three weeks. Just keep following your doctor's plan and your body will start up again. :) I think there's so much change going on that it kind of does a "What the heck?!!"

I am 6 weeks out, my weight stayed the same for over 1.5 weeks, has just started going down again, I started doing 45min walks most days.. I'm sure its just a plateau - I couldn't tolerate the shakes so I'm not having any of those, just a low cal diet..

Happy New Year :) Yes I think the water and walking will help. With my weight loss it has been longer than 6 weeks as my operation was delayed the night before (so I'd already been on liquids/optifast) for 2 weeks, then had a gap of about 6 weeks then did the Optifast again for 2 weeks and had the surgery Nov 20th - but thanks :) I think the big loss prior to surgery is why I'm stalling a bit too, on and off - hang in there! All the best.

I had surgery 12/6 as well and have hit a small stall. I just posted a similar question on the board. It seems awkward feeling relief to see others "struggling" and knowing I'm not the only one. ☺

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
