At home Sleep Apnea study?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was ready to schedule and then they told me they want me to get a sleep apnea study/test. The surgeons office showed me a flyer for a sleep apnea at home study kit. Anyone ever used one? Easy? Annoying? How much did it cost?

Wow never heard of a home kit before. I had my study and knew I didn't have sleep apnea WRONG! Got my machine and hate it. Hope the apnea goes away after surgery. No date yet still doing the three month disciplinary diet. Good luck with ur test.

Good afternoon:

I've never heard of a sleep apnea test done at home either. Who is suppose to monitor you while you are sleeping. Well I had sleep apnea for 3 years and after my surgery, 3 months ago I have no more sleep apnea, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck!

I had sleep apnea before my surgery. I had surgery in July. They are droping off a machine to retest me at home this week. I dont know how much it cost cause I have insurance. The machine is just like the one I use for my sleep apnea. Except the machine will adjust the pressure for what I need now. And there is a sd card in the machine that they get the information from once the study is over with. They said it takes about 2 weeks at home.

I work in a medical office and the doctor that I work for orders them all the time, not sure how they work, but i imagine its better than sleeping in a strange place, at least you'll be in your own bed.

I had to do the at home sleep study test. The one i used was a small.machine by respironics. There are 2 straps. One goes around the upper part of your torso and the other goes over top of your navel. There are 2 wires that run from each band and connect to the machine which sits on the first mentioned band on your chest. Lastly there is a cannula (apparatus for the nose, i.e., oxygen patients) that hooks into the machine , also a small mic that hangs from your head (very small). Its sounds complicated but it isnt. The only thing i hated was that i had to sleep on my back as the machine rests on your chest. You push the kn button when you are on your way to sleep and push to cut it off in the morn when you wake up. Take it back to the doctors the next day and walahhh!!!! Your done. Insurance paid for mine. Hope this helps!

Hmm I had a "screening" for sleep apnea which was basically wearing an o2 oximeter on my finger the readings were recorded on a disc all night and dropped off next day at docs. it showed that I had some apnea but since I was having the surgery we elected to not do further studies for a bit as we are pretty sure it will resolve. My sleep apnea was also confirmed after surgery when my o2 levels would fall every time I fell asleep.
