I am in the Orlando area and getting sleeved in Mexico due to the not wanting to deal with the insurance hoops and the cost here in the states for self pay. I have heard Dr. Kim at Celebration, Fl is amazing but he is really expensive. For those getting sleeved here in FL, what is it costing you if you are self pay, out of curiosity?

I paid $18,500 which included the surgery, and the hospital stay.

I am in Orlando and was going to be sleeved by dr Kim but insurance denied me and it was almost $20,000 as a self pay so I am now going to Mexico.... Surgery is feb 18th, but I was told dr Kim won't take me for post op care if I use a different surgeon so I'm on the hunt for another bariatric doctor in Orlando for my post op.

Hey all ... I'm new here and currently have the band (put in about 4 years ago) but thinking of getting the sleeve. I was banded in Mexico and while I'm thinking of going back there to get sleeved, I was thinking about Florida as well as I am coming down for a visit. However, I'm not sure how things are done down there. Are they like Mexico where you can essentially book your appointment and get done? Or do you have to go thru all the pre-op, psych appointment, meetings, journaling, wait a certain amount of time and then get banded? I'm assuming that its much more money to get sleeved in the US than it is in Mexico but at least I would have my parents down there to help me with recovery for a week or two. If anyone could let me know what the process is down there - I'll be in Naples for 3 weeks and it was just something that popped into my mind.

Thanks! Alana :)

Any doctor I have come across in Florida makes you go thru all the preliminary testing and such. The surgeon I was working with (before deciding on Mexico) was booked out months in advance and he wouldn't take patients from out of the immediate area because he wanted to be in charge of their post op care. The general pricing I have come across for self pay here is 15,000-20,000. The only place I've found in the US that operates like Mexico is in Las Vegas and that was still about $10,000.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

I think the main reason of the pre op classes, evals, tests, etc is for insurance approval processes. I think if your self pay there not as many hoops to jump thru so I would do the research and look into local hospitals that sponsor these procedures and then contact the surgeon(s) to get pricing & criteria for "self-pay" surgery. I would say go straight to the source(s) for your questions to ensure you are not dismissing something without receiving the facts.

Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
