Found Awesome Protein-Source!

Recommended Posts

Just have to share an awesome Protein source I came across. costco sells Kirkland-brand Frozen Turkey Burger Patties. They are 200 calories and a whopping 35 grams of protein! I've looked at other brands - Jennie-O, etc., and they only have 16 grams of protein.

Thought someone could benefit - I eat them daily now! They come in packages of 12 for $10 and change.

Yep, that's them! Are you in the States? I am on the West Coast but I know that on the East Coast there is a BJ's Warehouse store - If you can't find costco I would check them or Sam's Club - I'm sure they sell something similar.

Also look for the amylu sweet caramelized chicken patties at costco. These are unbeleivably awesome tasting. I believe that egg face has a page on them, but I found them by happenstance. I have one of these for lunch every day. So good!!!!!!!! 22 grams of Proteins and 150 calories per serving. I could not really eat a whole one of these until 4 months out. My dog loved the other 50% I was not able to eat. I like these warmed in the microwave, but they are also good cold as they are precooked.

BJ's. costco and Sam's all have these wonderful chicken patties. I don't remember the Protein count, but it was between 15 and 20, for the half I could eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
