Can Someone Explain the Mashed Potatoes to Me?

Recommended Posts

I have read over and over of people eating mashed potatoes and/or cream Soups as a regular part of their Post-Sleeve diet. Can someone explain this to me?

Those are fattening foods, right? My surgeon specifically instructed protein-only. Do all surgeons not do that?

My NUT said I could have them after I got 60+ grams of Protein in a day, but my doctor's office has a pretty regimented plan. I haven't had them :)

I think in the beginning some people have mashed potatoes because they are bland & go down easily. For me, I didn't worry about Protein for a while - I was mainly concerned with staying hydrated & having enough calories to avoid lightheadedness! Personally I am not a mashed potato fan but I can see how they are great for that mushy stage- as for ongoing post-sleeve diet I don't think mashed potatoes are the best.

I've developed problems later in the game (6 wks out) that have included esophageal spasms and some severe acid reflux. I'm basically back to a nearly all liquid diet, with most of my nutrition coming from Meal Replacement shakes, Soups, and yes, mashed potatoes.

While higher in carbs, potatoes are not inherently fattening as they have no fat. Even the potato flake variety has very little fat if you don't dump butter on it. Sweet potatoes are not nearly as spiky in terms of the glycemic response and are a better choice. Honestly? I'd rather *not* be eating mashed potatoes, but given how very little of anything else I can tolerate, I'll take some extra calories where I can (literally) stomach them.

Mashed potatoes are part of your mushy stage as are cream Soups. During this phase I did not eat mashed potatoes but I did however eat many creamed soups(I would also add some cheese to them for protein). After the mushy stage I rarely eat creamed Soup.< /p>

I think with the small amount of calories we are able to take in at that point, that it doesn't really matter?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
