Just curious as to how the sleeve has impacted your social and romantic lives?

I'm having my surgery in a few weeks and just curious.

Well, I'm sure everyone is different, but my personal experience;

Pre-op I was suffering from depression. As I was unemployed, I had no reason to go out & I very rarely did. I cut myself off from the few friends I had. For me to leave the house once a week (to drive to my ex-wifes house to pick up my kids) was about normal.

Since the operation, I am out all of the time. I walk at least 3.5 miles a day (I do 5 small walks rather than 1 big one). I cycle 5 miles a day. I visit the gym 3 times a week. Socially, I don't avoid people any more, so that side of things has greatly improved for me.

Romatically is a different story. I've been single now for over 2 years. Maybe that'll change, maybe it won't.

I think that it impacts everybody in a possitive way , I am almost 4 week post op , was sleeved on Nov 13 , My start weight was 237 lbs , I am 215 lbs now ... although the scale has been at a stall for the past 2 weeks , I know that I have lost dramatic inches , I was a size 20 and I can squeez into a size 16 , if the pants stretch.... I went to old navy the other day and I am now able to fit XL sweaters and xxL button shirts , so that was very exciting..... also I am sleeping alot better and enjoy feeling my husband s arms around me :) . I can also reach my full back when I shower ..... its just those little things.

I wish you the best of luck on your surgery and on going recovery.

People are nicer to me. It kinda pisses me off. I'm the same person. But there it is. I didn't realize that people ignored me or were less helpful as I became overweight because it was a slower process and I kinda chalked some of it up to aging. But the weight came off so fast and I'm not getting younger, so when the process reversed I was able to see that some people had been less nice the fatter I got. Sheesh.

Strangers are nicer, more likely to say something to me, more likely to start a conversation, open a door, etc. Because I am so much more outgoing, confident, and happy, there are many acquaintances who I have gotten to know much better. The people with whom I was close - I'm still close with them. With one exception - I had a friend who turned out to enjoy nothing more than taunting me with food. Uhhh - I don't have room for that kind of behavior in my life!

Overall, a very positive experience.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
