12 days post op, need some help

Recommended Posts

Was revised 11-26, from day 1 I've had diarrhea. I was concerned I had something, so I went in and all checks out besides a UTI. They ended up advancing my diet to soft foods bc of the runs. And what do u know they stopped. But for the life of me I CANNOT drink Protein Drinks. They immediately make me feel nauseous, cramps, bloating, and I'm running to the bathroom. I also have no gallbladder so stuff tends to run through even preop. If I can only eat barely 2T of like eggs, or turkey, and cannot supplement with Protein drinks, how the heck is my body gng to get in enough? I guess maybe over time my sleeve will be bigger? Anyone else have this issue with the drinks?

I couldn't stand Protein Shakes. The Isopure that comes in glass bottles really helped me out! They are a little expensive but to me they are worth it.

Yeah I did but if you take a sip of Water after it goes away. Or try diluting it in some water perhaps? Or you can always try those Protein Shots that come in small tubes, they don't taste the greatest but there is basically nothing to drink and very high in Protein. Or even with the Isopure I noticed it I dilute it and put it in the freezer till it turns to a slushie form I don't get that film.

Have you tried mixing the powder with something lactose free, like almond milk? Maybe it's the milk.

I've read that some become lactose intolerant afyer sleeved so the pp might be onto something.

I had the same problem. I used almond milk and it was better. I kept trying regular milk just to get the extra Protein and it did get better as time went on. Those drinks for the first month or so would send me straight to the bathroom!!

Mix unflavored Protein Powder with pudding or Soup or juice or Jello or apple sauce or cream of wheat or yogurt or tea or sugar free hot chocolate mix. Just watch the temp. Too hit nullifies the Protein.< /p>

If you're not lactose intolerant, maybe try making your shake with milk? I can't stand then mixed with Water. If you're not bothered by sweets, you may want to try Syntrax Nectar brand. They're really tasty but a bit too rich for me post op. Also, check out the world according to eggface site. She had great ideas for getting your Protein in. Hang in there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
