Any January 11th Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! This is my first post since discovering this website. So far since my decision to have the gastric sleeve, my journey has been extremely easy compared to other posts that I read (thanks BCBS).

My consultation appointment was on November 19th, and all testing is done and approved except for my upper endoscopy which is on the 20th of December. My surgery is scheduled for January 11th. I would really like to hear from others who are having surgery that date so that we can follow each other post-op.

Please get in touch with me:)

My surgery is set for 12-31-2012. That should be an easy date for me to remember. I have not received approval, but the surgery coordinator sees no problem and decided to proceed. I have done all required appointments for insurance . My journey has been fast and easy. I went to the seminar late October and 2 months later, I'm scheduled for surgery. Sometimes I wonder if it went too fast. Some people seem to have a terrible time. Hopefully, I'll get the word and start 2013 much healthier!

I have the same feelings you do about my process being "too easy". I read all these posts about people having to wait 6 months to a year before surgery. I'm also reading about all these special diets and people having to be on a liquid diet like 10 days pre-surgery. My doctor is only requiring a 1,000 calorie a day diet 8 days before surgery, then 2 days before surgery is liquid only. I can't decided if this is a good thing for the doctor to be so lenient, or a bad thing...

What does your pre-surgery diet consist of?

I see him again 12/11. The dietitian told me he requires a 2 day liquid only diet. I had to lose 5 pounds also. Hopefully I made the mark since I do not have a scale at home. As of last week, I lost only 2. I'm doing the old stand by-no carb approach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
