Surgical glue allergic reaction

Recommended Posts

I had surgery Nov 14 and everything has been fine but my incisions on my belly button has given me pure hell. The surgical glue have me blisters in my belly button and now it just looks awful. Has anyone else had this reaction other than me because now it's forming a rash and I informed my doctor but he said this is the first time has ever seen this happen with all the surgeries he has done. Here's a pic below just to show the damage.

And another thing my incision is healing open. :(

I feel like my stomach looks so gross

That needs to be seen about immediately! You may need to see a wound specialist. My mom had a breast biopsy and her wound was deeper than once thought. You definitely need that looked after!

i had problems with two of my incisions, had to have my stitches taken out earlier. the tape was irrating them, but now one has opened up and now a scab has formed making it very sore and painful. i just hope mine clears up. i just keep putting antibotic cream on mine. i,m 4 weeks post op. the dr that took my stitches out said if the infection comes back they would have to make another incision and take the infection out. i alwas worry about that flesh eating disease

Oh My God, I've been searching for someone with the same problem.... I'm almost 6 months post op, and after I went home from the hospital, I developed an awful rash in my incisions and it spread throughout my belly, I couldn't stay still for 3 days straight, and I kept scratching around my incisions like mad!!! Called my doctor... I was pretty nervous cause I kept thinking it might be an infection, but he was very calm, and told me some people have an allergic reaction to the surgical glue, and what made it worse was that the redness from the rash turned to a light brown, but he gave me an antibiotic and it all ended well... good luck there

I was sleeved Nov 12. This is my first post but I felt very compelled from your post. About 5 days after surgery my tummy/incisions started itching like crazy. At my 10 day check up the surgeon said it was allergic reaction to the glue and to use Benedryl. I did and it didn't work, in fact it got much much worse. Little red, itchy hives all over my tummy from incision to incision in all directions. I emailed the surgeon a picture and the nurse responded that I should go to my general doctor. I did and it was an infection! Called Folliculitis, a form of staph infection. I was devastated. But the antibiotics I'm on and the prescription steroid cream are working. Please please do all you can to get medical help, if it's not getting better please go to a specialist. Don't stop until you are satisfied that it's getting better. You are in my prayers as I know how horrible and scary anything out of the "norm" can seem.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
