So I am about 5 1/2 weeks post op and I have only lost 23 lbs...beginning to get frustrated. I'm only eating about 800 calories, and I am exercising almost everyday. I started at 241, 239 day of surgery and I'm only at 216 today. Not sure what I'm doing wrong? Anyone else out there losing slowly? Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks in advance :)

Firstly you have done great for 5 1/2 weeks out!! It's not ONLY. Secondly for me I try to keep my calories around 600-700 and eat mostly Protein with a little veggie. I do have yogurt occassionally. I also have a Protein Shake for Breakfast so that I can get in enough protein.

What's your goal weight? Those who need to lose less weight generally lose it slower. Just keep working the program.

My goal weight is 160...and I have read that also...I will keep working at it...but it is a little discouraging seeing others that have lost over 30 lbs or more. I just have to remember everyone is different :)

Or you may need more! You need to find the magic number for you. I wasn't losing at a lower cal level and my NUT upped it to 1000-1200, with only 20-30 carbs. That works for me. Good luck!!

I don't lose well when I eat too few calories. I know this not only from my sleeve experience, but also my diet attempts pre-sleeve. I aim for 1200-ish/day in real food calories.

I agree with doxieville's comment on calories. I'm 3 months out today and have lost 43 lbs. I stay around 800 calories, low carb, high Protein but I have found that if I'm in a stall if I actually up my calories it helps. We also have to give our bodies a chance to keep up! Just be patient and keep putting the right things in and drinking all your fluids! I always have to tell myself, that I did not put the weight on in 3 months or 6 months so just be patient and it will come off!

5 1/2 weeks post op - lost 23 lbs...beginning to get frustrated

divagirl78

hey there :)

congrats on losing 23 lbs!!!! your weight loss is right on target

many people (me, me,me) didn't know what to expect post surgery, how much, how quickly they would lose weight. that being said, don't compare yourself to any other sleever, their weight progression/loss/time period

all results are different, individual and fine for you - remember the old saying "all good things come to those who wait"

or is it weight????"

in my case, as in many, i didn't go to bed one friday night, and wake up monday morning 100 lbs overweight!!!!

so....in the same respect you aren't gonna lose the weight overnight :( in your "dreams" maybe

if your concerned about your caloric intake, check it out with NUT - thats what they are there for!!!

keep up the good work

your doing great!!!

Hi!

I completely understand your frustration. I'm pretty close to you're stats. I started out at 266 and on surgery day I was 249 and today I'm at 227. I spoke to the doc today and was reassured that since my bmi wasn't as high (40) I'm probably not going to lose big numbers in the first month but to be patient and it will come off. Also that our bodies need time to adjust to the weight loss including pre-op. Lower bmi tend to be a bit slower but in the end we all get there. I eat between 600-700 calories a day making sure to get 60 grams protien plus 64 oz Water a day. Hang in there, it's going to happen!

You sound like you are doing fine.

Maybe a few things - guessing since I have limited info :

Water - have to have Water for your body to do what it needs to do.

sleep is a most undervalued part of this. About 8 hours, in a regular rythm if at all possible. sleep regulates so much of what your body needs, it is again, undervalued!!! Sleep, Sleep, Sleep

If you are getting adequate protien, consider amping up to a light bodybuilding routine.

Yoga - I dont even consider it exercize anymore - it is a part of my mental well being...it does not have to be hard, or even challenging, really. I light 5 minute session helps me so much (I can't say I lose more weight, although I probably do, but I feel better to cope with the day to day)

Oh yeah - go get a tshirt that is too small - tight but not enough to rip seams, and try it on, and put it away for a couple of weeks, and put it back on again. It is a better gauge than you weight. I promise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
