What's your favorite broth?

Recommended Posts

So, surgery is right around the corner for me and I'm going to make darn sure I have things that I can stand to eat. I already have the Protein Shakes covered but now I'm on the hunt for the best broth. I prefer chicken, but I'd like your input on your top favorite broths to drink. If I can avoid doing things like mixing the ramen packets with Water and tossing the noodles that would be preferable. I'm 100% willing to make homemade broth if you guys have a recipe that rocks I'd love for you to post it! That broth in the hospital is always so tasty but it's sure hard to find something that tastes similar from the grocery store.

Thanks a bunch!

Edit: Urgh, this is posted in the wrong section...sorry guys I'm new and will figure it out.

You can't beat homemade chicken or beef broth. My husband has several of each in the freezer.

I actually ordered the chicken flavor Protein broth from Unjury. It tastes good and also provided me with protein. Wanted to be sure I got in the needed protein. I also ordered their unflavored and made sugar free Jello with that so when I had jello, and then later pudding, I was also getting protein.

To be honest, that scares the crap out of me. It sounds like it would be disgusting. Does it actually taste just like regular chicken broth? What about the texture? Is it thick or still clear like broth? I won't be able to handle it if it's thick and icky.

I thought it was good. The problem for me was the smell. I would put it in a travel coffee mug with a lid to reduce the aroma.

I read a bunch of reviews and people seem to like it so I checked to see if I could use my medical debit card which was accepted and bought the chicken broth and the unflavored for Jello and pudding. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just be sure as someone posted above, that the Water is not too hot or it will clump. They will also send you recipes for the unflavored for the Jello and pudding. The unflavored can also be added to broths, Soups, etc. but keep Water under 140 degrees.

If you don't like it, I believe they have a "return policy". Hope all goes well!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
