Ex-Smokers...Cravings?

Recommended Posts

All of us who have had this surgery had to quit smoking well in advance. I am now 10 days post-op & on a liquid only diet for another 11 days. I have found that in the past 2 days I have had SEVERE nicotine cravings. Is anyone else dealing with this? How do you cope? I think that I was okay without the cigarettes when I had food to soothe my nerves. Now I literally can't eat food so I think that is why I am wanting cigarettes. Yes, I have tried the take a walk, call a friend, etc. approach. I know that I can't be the only one...

I was sleeved Nov 6 and quit smoking probably 3 weeks before surgery. I have had cravings also, and several times have had a puff from one of my mother's cigs (she is living with me right now) and it tasted/felt gross, disgusting, icky. Yep I kept trying thinking it would be good but it was not!!!! I'm not recommending trying a smoke, just telling you how I have dealt with it.

Also a good thing to think of, after going through the surgery so we can be healthier and feel better, why continue to hurt our bodies with cigarettes?

Wish you the best of luck :)

After smoking for years and several attempts at quitting, after surgery I can't even stand the smell of cigarettes. I still have cravings but I can't even tolerate the smell without feeling sick, let alone actually smoke.

I would never laugh. I actually have been really wanting to learn how to crochet myself. Did you teach yourself? I really don't know anyone who does it who could teach me. I am on disability & home all day. I had no idea how much I was relying on food to fill my time until I came home from surgery. I am bored out of my mind right now & have no hobbies to speak of. I would really love more info. Good luck with your big change! When you are feeling well enough, I would love to hear more about how to lean to crochet.

My mom and Nonnie taught me when I was a little girl. Still have to ask my mom sometimes how to do certain things.

Try this, go to hobby lobby, michaels or any hobby store you lave local. Pick up a latch hook kit. They are fun and different. You can easily do one by Christmas and give it away as a gift.

Here some examples:

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
