amytug 996 Posted December 7, 2012 I'm still preop bit I'm thinking about all the things that I'm "powerless" to and trying to come up with alternatives because one day, they will be tempting to me again. Sweets, hands down, are something I'm always going to have to stay away from. The thing I'm mostly curious about though, is pizza. We are HARDCORR pizza fans here and we eat frozen ones at least once a week. I can eat 5 pieces of a frozen pizza. Tonight after that I had 3 little Debbie cakes.we would not have them if dh hadn't bought then on his way home and tomorrow is my birthday, so. Anyway. I like pizza because it tastes good but also because I have 6 children and I don't like cooking. SO What is sleeve diet friendly/healthy and as easy as pizza (ha!) for around a year out? Wwyd? TakeCareGirl 161 Posted December 7, 2012 I have read somewhere on this board that someone suggested making mini-pizzas out of the large sandwich style pepperoni you can get at the deli counter. You can put the toppings on top of that and bake. I also saw a blog post where someone made them from the large portabella mushrooms being the crust. A lot of people have been raving about cauliflower crust pizza, I haven't tried it yet, but here's one recipe I want to try. And one last thought! I made this Where's the crust pizza? pre-VSG. My daughter did not like it, but I did. I will be making it again sometime. Good luck! 1 amytug reacted to this
autumnrose1031 11 Posted December 7, 2012 i have a great recipie for a healthy pizaa if you like mushrooms! what you do is take a large portobello mushroom and cute the stem off and shave out all the little black hair things lol, this will be your bread. Then top with a small spoonfull of whatever pizza (tomato) sauce you prefer. Take a low fat mozzarella stick and peel it all up and place it all over the mushroom top, and then get some turkey bacon and add a few pieces, pop it in the microwave and boom! a delicious little pizaa for like 100-150 calories! and add whatever else toppings you like as well!!! hope you like mushrooms!! 1 amytug reacted to this
tjloser 62 Posted December 7, 2012 We were making pizza with the tortilla shells. I would always use the low carb shells and top with pizza sauce, cheese and ground sausage or pepperoni and mushrooms. Of course you can top it with what you want to make it even less calories. 2 MrsM and gmanbat reacted to this
iggychic 1,405 Posted December 7, 2012 We have "make your own" pizza night once a month or so. Tonights the night. My son has cheese...he's 7 and boring LOL But I had brie cheese, motzerella and parmesan with chicken, caramelized onions and mushrooms. We buy pre made pizza dough from Safeway and roll it very very thin....oh and we get whole wheat by the way...and then I drizzle mine with a good balsamic vinegar and cook. You can't eat much of it, and the kiddo's LOVE making their pizzas. Mine is pretty high in Protein and easy on my stomach because I cook it crisp. I didn't have this surgery so I could never eat things again. I just eat less of them. Pizza is a treat, but not something I avoid...that said I don't like cardboard pizzas (those frozen things LOL) so if I'm gonna have pizza it's gonna be GOOD!!!! 2 MrsM and gmanbat reacted to this
MrsM 31 Posted December 7, 2012 I love pizza too and my family orders it every friday night! That has been the hardest for me to give up. How bad would it be to just eat the top off of one slice of pepperoni? Seems to me the cheese and pepperoni together might add up to 1/4 cup and if you skipped the crust and only had one slice...would it be ok? I know it's not lowfat cheese but my guess is if a slice of pizza is roughly 500 calories..eating just the topping off of one would only be maybe 300 calories? Any thoughts? You beat me to it. I make a pizza burrito. Slap the stuff in, roll it up, in and out of the microwave, or if my wife's doing it, the oven.
SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted December 7, 2012 What about low carb turkey meatballs with delicious marinara sauce and low fat mozzarella cheese? Got the italian flavor with cheezy-tomatoey goodness with a good amount of Protein without the carbs. Also, you can make pizza on a low carb pita bread. You're not really "cooking" more just assembling and toasting in a toaster oven or under a broiler. I love these http://www.josephsbakery.com/SubPages/StaticPages/ProductDetails.aspx?ID=8483be23-39fb-492a-82c2-3d045680ff03 They just never filled me up since I have a great big stomach. I'm looking forward to being sleeved and trying these and having one "pizza" on a mini pita bread actually be filling.... rather than gorging on an entire medium pizza from Domino's. 2 Fiddleman and AStephenson reacted to this
gmanbat 5,889 Posted December 7, 2012 In truth, when the family orders pizza, I get one slice, cut it in half, eat the non-crust half, I'm done. This from a guy that used to order 2 pizzas, one for the family, one for me. 2 MrsM and amytug reacted to this
Squisha 99 Posted December 7, 2012 I have used flat out, it's a rectangle bread sold near the pitas. I cut 1 into fourths for myself, half for hubby and daughter. I add spaghetti sauce, low fat mozzarella and what ever toppings i am in the mood for. i like to cook it on my griddle pan. Spay pan with pam, place bread in pan for a few min to heat, flip and add sauce cheese and toppings. I have had real pizza a few times since surgery and am satisfied with 1 slice instead of 3 or 4. 2 amytug and MrsM reacted to this
Robyn Owens-Miille 132 Posted December 7, 2012 I use the Mission carb control whole wheat tortillas as my pizza base. I put a little sauce, turkey sausage, thin sliced mushrooms and mushrooms and little low fat cheese and pop it in the toaster oven. It's fun playing with my food now! gettinMeBack 380 Posted December 7, 2012 I love pizza also! But I find that it works for me to just eat the topping off of one slice of pizza and I'm fine wit that. I don't like how I feel when I attempt to eat bread or heavy carbs so I stay away. I also made my own pizza out of wheat tortilla cooked in the oven which made it crunchy and it was a slider food. I was able to eat 3 mini slices
Drpepperrocks 0 Posted December 7, 2012 I just started solid foods a couple days ago and pizza was the one thing I was CRAVING!!! I used to be able to finish a whole large by myself. I tried it the fist day I was allowed solids, more as a mini-celebration than anything, and got about 1/4 of a slice down (maybe three bites)....but man was it good!!!! I will be trying the different recipes that I have seen on here. pizza will be my "treat yourself" food that I need to watch!!
NisaletOAM 48 Posted December 7, 2012 When I use to do Atkins i would just eat the toppings and use the crust and dough as my plate LOL I don't see the harm in that you just have to be mindful and not add alot of topping that will give you a high fat content like sausage, bacon and if you do just do as my mothere does take some paper towels and pat the fat out of it LOL!! 2 MrsM and Threetimesacharm reacted to this
