You Know You Were Fat When...

Same here. I had to lose 40 lbs before even a (very) few people noticed. I guess it will take 20 more or so before others notice. Its ok. I don't talk about how much I've lost.

I think it's the perfect time of year for this. Think of all the poofy sweater, jackets ect. You're shedding all this weight. Come summer when you are able to wear form fitting clothes everyone's gonna be floored!

I really don't want anyone saying too much till I'm done. If they notice then I think we'll I'm ok at this weight and stop. I guess I'm weird. Lol

Mrs Gina I feel the exact same way! I've lost weight before and when the compliments flowed in, it's was determinal because I stopped putting out the effort!

Im the opposite i cant really see it myself but everyone aroubd me seems to notice and comment.. Even ppl that havent seen me in a wjile and last time they saw me i was probably skinnier or less fat than i am right now... It makes me wonder how bad i actually looked and how fat ppl thpught i was... I saw a friend today that laat time i saw her i weighed exactly the same and yet she said i look sooo good.. I think just knowingg about the surgery influences ppl to say something even if i look exactly the same as i did last time they saw me

Sorry for the typos.. My ipad isnt collaborating with me today

That's precisely what happened to me on all those other weight loss attempts. This time it's different because I know I'm going to keep losing. Now, when I get a compliment, in the back of my mind I'm thinking: "You ain't seen nuthin' yet!" :-)

People are funny. I saw a friend who I hadn't seen since prior to the surgery (so now four months) last weekend. He was funny...he said, "Do you have new glasses? Different hair? Somethings different!" I laughed and said, "I've dropped 40 plus pounds" I got the same thing from a bar tender a few weeks earlier :) Sometimes people don't know what to say. For me, 40lbs is more than half the weight I was going to lose so it's significant and it shows. It makes me laugh.

Funny that you say this Iggy. I walk my dogs around a lake everyday and often encounter my neighbours. One day an elderly neighbour I had stopped to talk to started to look quizzically at me and said, " Did you change your hair, did you change the color"? She couldn't figure out what was different. I didn't tell her that I had lost 55 pounds!!

Sometimes it's difficult for others to see our weight loss because our 20-50 lbs is like 5-10 on normal sized people. We are bigger people so it is only natuaral for us to lose larger amounts before it is noticed. You'll keep losing and others will notice, but don't focus on what others see, just focus on your journey. Good luck.

McKate, let me tell you something interesting. Oh they notice alright, but this is where the jealousy and lothing comes in. This is where you find out whose your friend and whose not. . . don't worry, keep your head up. . .keep on shakin' your stuff, they notice alright. . . .

My sister recently lost a great deal of weight. She went from 220 down to 155. She said nobody at her work even noticed until she lost 30 pounds! Whaaaaaa? I noticed after she lost her first 10!

I'm thinking that on me nobody will notice until I get under 250 :-(

I think it is a really touchy subject. I know even for myself, I am always worried to say something if someone hasn't been publicly open about it. I am always worried I am going to offend them, almost like I am saying "you needed to lose weight". And I am coming from a point where I know how good it feels to get compliments, and I am still scared!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
