How Much Is The Surgery??

Recommended Posts

I paid $7,000 in Mexico, which was for the surgery, meds., 2 nights of hotel stay, a stay overnight in the hospital, transportation from San Antonio and back. I paid 44 each way for my plane ticket from Dallas to San Antonio. I also had a very experienced surgeon who has done over 3,000 lapbands. They've been doing it longer in Mexico and many of these surgeons proctored the U.S. doctors. For someone like me, who didn't have $16,000, this was a good option.

I paid $15,000 for an excellent surgeon in the US. It included visits with the surgeon, dietician, counselor and a year of free fills, a 6 month and 1 year check-up and it included 2 night stay in a nice motel since I traveled from out of town. I felt it was very worth it.

8500.00, including, two nights stay at Dr. Sanchez's guesthouse, hospital, preop, driver from airport to guesthouse, to hospital, back and to airport again and anywhere else we wanted to go. One of the most experienced surgeons in the world, done over 7000 lapbands, wonderful staff, free fills for life and I have the most wonderful follow care doctor in Cinci, so I couldn't be more pleased.

I paid about $17,000. That included pre-op consultations, of course the surgery, post-op visits and fills for one year. They also have a monthly support group meetings.

I thought about going to Mexico, but I really wanted to have my surgeon local. It's a personal choice, good reasons for both.

I paid $15,950 for surgery in Ga. It includes visits with the surgeon, dietician, counselor and a year of free fills, a 6 month and 1 year check-up and also lifetime 2x monthly support meetings. This was only 70 miles from home so I felt more comfortable with my doc being nearby.

I don't have any insurance! I want this surgery but I can't afford the $17,000 that it costs in my area. What is a person to do? Any info would be of great help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
