I miss my beer!!!

Recommended Posts

Does anybody ever drink beer? I just had surgery on 10-18-06 and am anxiously awaiting my first drink of beer. I have heard from several people that you can never have carbonated beverages. I hope this isn't true! Also, did everyone follow the liquids only diet for the 2 weeks following surgery? Dr. Spiegel did my surgery. My start weight was 242 and I have already lost 15 pounds! Thanks for any info.

In response to the NEVER having carbonated drinks. That isn't true, although I have tried to pour the drink into a glass & let all the FIZZ/BUBBLES disappear. Also, in order to get the MAXIMUM weight loss you should really follow the book/instructions that the Dr office gave you. I had my surgery 7 months ago & have NOT had any problems. I have already lost 55 lbs & still counting. Try to follow the rules, although at times it might be difficult.:clap2:

dr spivak was my dr and i only had to stay on liquids for 72 hrs. i too love beer and have no problem with it. though, i can't drink nearly the amount like i could before the surgery...i do indulge every once in awhile. i never was a soda drinker,so this hasn't bothered me.

Beer is probably the one thing I miss most. Not that I drank alot before surgery but always enjoyed a good cold one on a hot day.

I spoke to my Dr about drinking beer and he told me he has patients who have no problem and then some do.

So i set up my own experiment.

Flew to Vegas...$263.00 round trip. Stayed 3 nites free as Harrah's has me on their sucker list. An honor I brag about...lol

Played $300.00 in video poker machine waiting for drink lady to come by so I could get the "FREE" beer. What the hell wasn't going to spend $2.00 on a beer back home that I may not be able to finish.

Half way thru the bottle beer I realized this wasn't going to work out. Good decision I didn't pay for that beer as I dumped out more then half the bottle.

So I went to the bar to get a candberry/vodka to drown my sorrows. Put another hundred thru video poker machine. Bartender started talking to me (since he had no choice...was at bar alone...) I was telling him about my beer problem and he suggested I try a beer from the Tap since it is less carbonated. So I order one and while I was sipping it I put another $100.00 thru machine. Hit a two grand on a Royal flush(playing .50 cents). Was a good sign. The beer went down just fine so tried a second. Better then first.

So I spent the next day with my friend that lives there and didn't spend a dime.

Next day I had one more tap beer while I spent $200.00 on Three Card Poker. Caught my 1pm flight home.

Si I spent $863.00 gambling and flight. Won $2,000.00 and came home with $1137.00 profit. Not to bad. Now I'm looking for something else to experimant with in Vegas.

Bottom line is I can't drink bottle beeer but can enjoy a brew from the tap. Sure glad I didn't take the cheap way to find out and purchase that $2.00 bottle beer in Detroit

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
