PJ_Sleeve 45 Posted December 5, 2012 As we all know, some of us get a touch of reflux after being sleeved. I am happen to be one of those lucky sleevers! What do you take for reflux? What has worked best if you have tried multiple medications/treatments. (I have a little secret...I have been drinking coffee and I heard that is a no/no...so starting tomorrow, I will skip my daily cup or two of coffee to see if that helps.) I was taking Prevacid Solutab, which worked wonderfully, but they are way to expensive (my insurance doesn't cover it). I am currently taking Zegrid. Not really doinig the job, so I am turning to my VSG Community for some insight! ;0)
New1 201 Posted December 5, 2012 I take generic Prevacid daily and I too drink coffee which gives me terrible heartburn so I take a Zantac in the later morning and that helps the acid exacerbated by my coffee. Good luck. 1 PJ_Sleeve reacted to this
PJ_Sleeve 45 Posted December 5, 2012 I definitely think I am going to get back on the Prevacid (just not the solutabs). It worked wonders for me!!! So, the Zantac and the Prevacid can be taken together? I can do that! I love my coffee, so hard to give it up! It is my worst vice right now!
lisa2job 130 Posted December 5, 2012 I also take Prevacid and try to stay away from coffee ... maybe have Decaf 1x a week ....
barbi1281 112 Posted December 5, 2012 I'm a coffee drinker and I take one 40 mg Protonix daily. I've had NO problems with reflux or any acid since I've been on it. Little warning though - if you get drug tested at work it gives a false THC reading 1 PJ_Sleeve reacted to this

MsGee33 15 Posted December 5, 2012 My reflux was so bad I went to the ER the other night. My surgeon gave me an Rx for Pepcid and nausea meds. I have to take 2 Pepcid every eight hours and nausea meds when needed. I can't eat because everything burns except Popsicles and Peanut Butter. Since I can't eat anything I feel like the acid gets worse. I don't know how long I can take this. Any suggestions on acid friendly foods? 1 PJ_Sleeve reacted to this

I would stay with crackers and the bland stuff for now. dairy products trend to trigger my reflux also, so I try to stay away from it.

PJ_Sleeve 45 Posted December 7, 2012 I skipped the coffee today and seem to be feeling a little better. I am beginning to believe that coffee is the heartburn culprit for me.
butter-fly 17 Posted December 11, 2012 I've been struggling with heartburn, too. I'm 2 months out. How long will this awful heartburn continue? Forever?
