Gallbladder Removal During Vsg

Recommended Posts

Ok now I asked my surgeon about removing mine during my sleeve surgery and he told me that he didn't like doing it at the same time due to that the gallbladder might be infected or something like that. I am already having problems with mine. I really don't want to get cut open again to have it removed down the road.

I got the news yesterday that my gallbladder ultrasound found at least one gallstone. The news was delivered by my PCP and he had indicated that without "gallbladder attacks' date='" it's probably not a big deal. I happened to have my Nut#3 the same day, yesterday, and when I inquired, she said that the doctor would remove the gallbladder. It sounded like an automatic "gallstones = removal."

I'm thinking the logic is the risk of needing a second surgery (second anesthesia, etc.) outweighs the risk of the preemptive strike of removing the gallbladder.

I had found another post about removal AFTER having had WLS, but I was curious to get some feedback who are in the same boat as me: doctor took it out DURING your VSG. What were your experiences?[/quote']

Do it! Seriously you will be SO thankful you did!

Who wants to have another surgery in who knows how long after the first one?

I had mine out as a precaution- never had any problems or even felt I had a GB! Buy I had it out when I had my sleeve!

Best decision ever!

Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for everyone's input. Though I have never had issues to date' date=' it seems like a prudent move.

This brings to mind a saying in supply chain, relative to volume forecasting: past performance is not an indicator of future volume. That seems to apply here.[/quote']

I was sleeved 10/25 and I had my gallbladder removed at the same time. The surgery took a bit longer than others but other than that, it wasn't a big deal. I was told to avoid foods that were fried or high in fat for the rest of my life- which sounds like common sense with the VSG, but that was it.

Good luck to you!

Just had mine removed yesterday, 3 months & 3 days after my sleeve. I wish I could have foreseen that it would go wacky & I had the option of having it out when I had the sleeve. I am in so much pain, if I do not take the pain meds every 4 hours I feel horrible.

Carri, that's interesting I haven't heard that reason before. I asked my Doctor to take mine out at the same time just because I have read that so many are having problems after. He just told me we will cross that bridge if we need to if it comes. I haven't ever had a problem, I was just wanting to avoid one. I wonder what the percentage of people this happens to is?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
