So my weight right now is at its highest- (surgery happens in Feb 2013) and lately I've been eating with wild abandon. The holidays aren't helping but I would like to shed some pounds before the pre op diet starts just so I can feel a little good about myself between now and then. Anyone else going through this too? I have to stop. :-(

hey i think nearly every one does this . i started a thread a few weeks before my surgery saying the same thing.

i think its because even though we are over weight we were still kinda dieting every day you know having some kind of control over our eating so as not to put on more. but as soon as surgery starts coming closer or brain flicks a switch telling us go wild it will be all over soon.

i put on about 8 or 9 pound in about two weeks amd all my fat clothes were getting too tight Thats when i had to reign it in and stop eating like crazy i didn't want to waste money on bigger clothes.

i started my pre op diet a few days early too i had enough of the over eating . . . .

don't know if this helps but your absolutely normal . . . .

Does your surgeon require some kind of weight loss before surgery?

Oh yeah, I did the food funeral big time. I used to be the queen if self sabotage! I gained back all if the weight I lost during the nearly year long program with the hospital. My NUT and nurse had to kinda slap me back into reality and I reigned it in right before the preop diet. Now, I feel super silly about it because I don't have any issues with foods and the stuff I knew I'd miss I haven't wanted at all. (So weird!)

Just dust yourself off and try to reign it in. don't make it harder for yourself post op. :-)

Yes! A 2 week pre-op diet with Optifast. I still have have two more appts with my nutritionist too (later this month and once in jan) so maybe she will give me a plan to follow.

Starting my Pre op a few days early. The advice given to me was, "get it aaaaalll outta your system. No regrets, enjoy. Because once you're sleeved you may never eat like that again."

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
