I have Kaiser insurance and I was just turned down today. They said I needed to be 5 years out from breast cancer. I am only 2.5 years out. 2.5 years I'll be fatter and less healthy by then. Right now I have a greater chance of going full blown into diabetes or having a heart attack than I am of having a BC reocurrence. My chances of BC reocurrence are only 4%. Any pointers on how to get around this? Very sad.

I would go in and meet with the specialists. Where is your A1c count at and can it be determined as diabetes? Have you had a sleep apnea test yet? Look for other comorbities that can get you qualified....... work the system......there is also great docs in Mexico that are reasonable and give A1 care to their patients.....

Thank you, I have enlisted my ONC and my plastic surgeon as well. I didn't need to be cancer free for 5 years before I had breast reconstruction, now I can't finish reconstruction because I am to fat! This is a cruel joke. I will keep trying.

Well, I have no suggestions other than to appeal but want to say that that royally sucks! What difference does it make how far along post cancer you are? Is your life somehow not worth as much as someone who get unlucky 2.5 years before you? Sometimes insurance "rules" just blow chunks!

Have you though about self pay? There are threads here that talk about Mexican doctors that do a great job.

Kaiser seems to be very uncooperative. You hear negative stuff about them all the time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
