Week 1 Down 22 Lbs & Not Excited

Recommended Posts

I am one week out from surgery & down 22 lbs. I should be super excited. Losing 22 lbs. in a week is something I should be proud of, right? It's just that I have lost and regained the same 30 lbs. over & over again for the past few years. So, I guess I feel like I will know this is really working when I move past that 30 mark & keep moving. Has anyone else had a similar experience or any advice on this new journey?

Wow!!!! Incredible! I highly doubt that in the past you were able to lose 22lbs in just 1 week! You need to appreciate the new you and how hard your body is working for you! Say a Final goodbye to those pounds because they are gone forever!!! This is the real deal, get excited! I too, am 1 week out, I am excited to be losing 1 pound per day!! ;0)

If I were you I would appreciate it! This surgery isn't magic and trust me you are going to hit a point when you hit a stall, even eating 800 or fewer calories a day! I didn't think that would happen to me either but it has taken me a month to lose 7 pounds. This is only a tool. Be happy at 22 or you are setting yourself up for false expectations! You will lose it, and faster than any other "diet" but still not that fast. Good Luck!

Be happy with your loss. Consider that other people struggle with losing from the very beginning. Prepare yourself for struggles - like stalling for weeks (or longer!) at a time even though you are eating only 600 calories and exercising for two hours a day. Give yourself a reality check.

Your emotional upheaval right now may have nothing to do with dissatisfaction with your weight loss but instead be part of the crazy hormones from losing weight quickly.

I think I understand what you're feeling. I went through something similar. Sometimes it just takes a little time for your thoughts and emotions to catch up and accept what's really happening to your body. Once you see you're not only keeping that 22lbs off but even more, and you accept that it's permanent, you'll be fine.

Don't be down on yourself just because you're not feeling what you think you should be, or what someone else says you should. The emotional journey can be tough. Allow yourself time to adapt.

I would be jumping up and down. It took me a month to lose 22lbs. You are going to hit 30 soon, so you shouldn't be in a funk too much longer.

You are going to have several points during your weight loss where you will gain and lose the same few pounds. This isn't a cause for alarm, so work on getting your head around it. Be happy for your small successes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
