Post-Vbg And Recovering From Pregnancy

Recommended Posts

I had my VBG three years ago and put my Type II diabetes in remission, relieved my hypertension and started a new life, all with the intent to get pregnant. So after many years of trying to conceive and one failed pregnancy, we now have a baby!

Pregnancy does some weird stuff to your body and places that weren't flabby after surgery now are, and places that were flabby after surgery are now even more so... So here I am 10 weeks out, back to work, and trying to figure out the best place to start back on my road to recovery.

Although diabetes was in remission, the pregnancy brought it back on in the last half, so my carbs (which I was required to eat to feed the growing baby) were carefully monitored and I never gained a great deal of weight. The pounds that I did gain were lost in the first two weeks after the birth. Then, the issue of a colicky baby that had to be held 24/7 kicked in and I ended up losing all my progress. I not only gained the birth weight back, I gained more. I now have 51 lbs to lose AGAIN, just to get back to my prevous weight.

Has anyone been at this point? I could use some advice.

No, I haven't been in your shoes. But I know you already aware of how to lose the weight. Never give up, you can do this. Have you thought of the 5 day pouch test? Don't think you need to lose this in a month. Most post pregnancy women take a few months to lose, so don't be discouraged. You have the sleeve to help you out with quantity.

Congratulations on your precious newborn!

You're right, iegal! I had forgotten about the 5-day pouch test. I need to visit Kaye Bailey's website and check in. I have been a follower of eggface for some time, as well. There are some great resources out there to keep us all going!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
