mommy1990 10 Posted December 4, 2012 I am worried as i have been losing weight lately after my recent diagnosis of diabetes. My dr. has put me on metformin and this past month i have lost 10 lbs. I am not complaining but i'm worried i will lose too much and my BMI won't be high enough to qualify for surgery! If i knew i could lose all the weight myself i wouldn't be worried. Anyone lose a lot of weight on metformin??
dadobuns 0 Posted December 4, 2012 I had the same issue. I believe to qualify for surgery, you need to be at least 40 BMI but most insurance will cover between 30-40. I don't have information on Metformin but I was pre-diabetic before I had surgery and over the past 10 weeks, I have lost 40 pounds. If you go in for a consultation now and weigh-in, I believe your surgeon can use that weight to submit your insurance paperwork.
mommy1990 10 Posted December 5, 2012 My BMI right now is 37 my insurance will pay if you have 2 co-morbidities and BMI is between 35-40. I have severe sleep apnea, high cholesterol and diabetes so I'm covered there. I just hope I don't lose to much Someday I would really like to sleep without my c-pap mask.....forever! mommy1990 10 Posted December 5, 2012 That would be nice if my Dr. can use my consult. weight.
