I'm So Hungry On The Pre Op Diet Does It Get Easier After The Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I've done diets my whole life and yet I feel so hungry on Pre op. Why does this feel so much harder? Is it because in my mind I'm dealing with food separation issues? Please tell me I'm won't be starving forever

I just got my sleeve done on 11/27. I was totally freaking out dealing without food pre-op. After surgery I find there are many things to deal with, but hunger isn't one of them. I have no appetite at all. I have moved from Clear Liquids to Protein Shakes. I have to remind myself to drink them because I'm not hungry. Good luck with your surgery.

Im in preop diet too. I know post op has to be better because we won't physically be able to eat more. Right now, our stomachs are the same size and hunger is really my biggest issues. It will get easier! We just have to remember why we are doing this.

Yes. I have now lost 160 lbs. I tried every diet imaginable. I'm still losing 16 months after surgery. Sometimes I forget to eat. Now I eat to live, I use to live to eat!!!!

What does your pre op diet consist of?

Pre-op, I lost 23 lbs but was hungry, just like normal. Not so post op. I've not had 'real' hunger since June 11, 2010. It is wonderful. I eat because it is the social thing to do, it tastes good and I know I MUST. I never had the 'head hunger' people talk about. I still graze, I'd broken the habit but was told to start again so I could get all the calories I need to maintain. Wrap your head around that!!!! It is much easier......you'll love it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
