Just curious about this because my doctors office never mentioned anything about having to switch to an open procedure. I found out about it and reading the booklet I was given. It says if there are complications it's possible they may have to switch to an open procedure...

Just wondering has this happen to any of you? If so, did u know ahead of time it was going to be open? What could possibly cause this to happen?

An enlarged liver could cause it. Them making a slip and injuring you inside with some of the tools could cause them to have to open you up to make repairs... though that is very rare.

Previous abdominal surgery with old scar tissue, my surgeon prepped me for that but luckily he was still able to do surgery laparascopically.

I was suppose to have laporascopic surgery but my surgeon pierced my colon when he first inserted the first tool...so he had to open me up the old fashion way.. I was cut from below my belly button to up between my breasts. I'm thankful he found the pierce right away and fixed it... I had 27 staples total... Recovery took a little longer but was still not bad at all. I was back at work in 2 weeks.. I am almost 5 months postop and have lost 65 lbs! I have 40 to go! It was worth every single staple! I would still do it again!!

So glad you had a great recovery. Not sure why my surgeon told me I would need off 4-6 weeks. As much as i am enjoying my time away from work, Thinking about going back sooner. I am on my feet 13-14 hours during the day. Between the standing and lifting patients not sure if that's a good idea..

I had the open procedure but I knew in advance That I was having it.. My doctor prefers to do all of his procedures open. My staples actually opened up & now I have a wound to take care of 2 times daily.. My surgery was done last month so I am still healing from everything .. I still don't regret the surgery despite my setbacks..

I was concerned about being opened up too but my doctor reassured me as long as I followed the pre op diet and since I am young and in pretty good health that I wouldn't have to worry it is just something they have to tell you worse case scenario. I had my surgery laproscopic and it worked out so don't worry you should be fine

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
