Physical Job And Time Off?

Recommended Posts

I've finally come to the conclussion the only way I have improve my health is with wls. Wife had lap band done a few years ago and has done great. only had band done cause sleeve wasnt approved by ins at that time. I've read through these forums over and over and just have a few questions regarding time to take off from physical job.

I am a self employed landcaper. Most everything I do is by myself. I've been worried about the time it takes to heal. I thought maybe a week and a half is all I would be able to take. I've read some guys heal and are back to work within a week. I just dont know if that is to an office job or a physical job. I just recently discussed with my primary care doc. But have not got approval to see Baratrics yet. I'm pretty sure either way I'm getting it done.

Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on this subject?> Thanks!

My doctor said no exercise/lifting for a month. I was encouraged to walk from day 1, but that was all. It was hard for me to even bend over and tie my shoes for a few weeks.

I work with FedEx which is super physical and I had to take 6 weeks off to be fully healed.

Trauma/EMS RN here

Took 4 weeks, return to work this Friday.

Doc said ok for elliptical type stuff after 1.5 weeks.

But nothing that will use stomach muscles.

I took 4 weeks off and am glad I did. Gave me time to just take care of me, to focus on the liquid part of the post op diet and to walk outside as much as I could. My doc also wanted me off for that long and would have given me another two weeks if I wanted it!!

Wow! That is all very discouraging! Guess this is when I wished I was not self employed! Guess I'm back to the old fashion way!

Is there anyway that you could hire a temp helper while you recover? Or have family help you out with your business? If you could hire someone to dictate to for a few weeks you could still go through with the surgery. I know it isn't optimal income wise but it might be a way.

I have to admit I know nothing about landscape business so my comments are with a grain of salt. I assume the winter months may be slower which is why it may actually be a good idea to have your surgery now. Is there anyone, friend, college kid or high school kid off school right now and wanting to make some extra money working under your supervision for a few weeks. try posting in craigslist if you do not know anyone, Friends kids, people at church ??

You will probably feel ok to supervise just not want to lift and bend.

I may be able to find someone to help me. Guess my health is worth more than the money I'd have to pay out. I would have to drive though. I know I have read some its fine others its a struggle. I'm in So Cal so its lawn maintenance yr around. But its less physical than it would be in spring and summer.

RN here, my employer requires the ability to lift 75 pounds before you can return to work. Surgeon say that will be 6 weeks.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
