jkfjdohio 12 Posted December 2, 2012 Tomorrow I am 2 weeks post op. I'm on a full liquid diet until my surgeon follow-up which is not until Thursday. Recovery has been a snap until today. I'm so tired of Protein Shakes, broth, Jello, etc. I'm so tempted to buy a cheeseburger (or anything of sustenance) to chew up and spit out just to get some flavor in my mouth of actual food. What can I do?!?
Beetracy 14 Posted December 2, 2012 I am on my second week as well, day 9 and I feel ya! Remember it's just a few days and then we can eat so much more. Try creamed Soups make them with milk and you get protien, they are really good! Also add a scoop of Peanut Butter into a chocolate shake it really shakes up the flavor! We can do it!!! Just a few more days!!! Drink Water chew a sugar free popcyle if you need texture! Alsi try Yasso Greek yogurt bars they are really good and have lots of protien. Kim Ster 111 Posted December 2, 2012 Hang in there, you can do this...each phase has its challenges.....keep your eye on the prize. I ate smooth mashed potatoes to help with that, it really did the trick. Add some fat free gravy too. Delish!
Big Dee 4 Posted December 2, 2012 I'm two weeks tomorrow also, but I am allowed to eat pretty much any pureed foods since I came home from hospital. I have no problems at all tolerating this. Good luck.
NJgirl 1 Posted December 2, 2012 Try something like thin mashed potatoes (regular or sweet), or creamy polenta. Everybody is different, but you are allowed yogurt and puddings (at least I was) in the liquid stage. I also found homemade chicken broth with farina made a nice soup/stew and varied it up. I could handle that stuff more than I could a scrambled egg. You can get creative, just start really small and make sure your stomach can handle it. DON'T GO FOR THE HAMBURGER. It sounds tempting, but you will regret it. Your stomach is extremely sensitive, and you need to go slow when you start introducing foods or you will get very sick (not a pleasant experience). The last thing you want to do is go under the knife to fix a leak because you gave into the craving. I am 6 months out, and its be best decision I ever made (and now I can eat hamburger, well a mini one!)
GeauxForIt 659 Posted December 2, 2012 I was MISERABLE until I moved on to puréed foods. Week 2 was terrible for me, but it really does get easier once you can have actual food and not just fluids. Call and ask if you can have something puréed a few days early. It worked for me. Hang in there!!
KK66 61 Posted December 2, 2012 I sooooo understand. I was never a good liquids person prior to surgery and now, four days post op, it's almost unbearable. V8 juice, SF popsicles, chicken broth with a few teaspoons of flavored instant potatoes works well, as does campbells Tomato Soup with milk.
