4 Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

Wow! So who knew the surgery would be so painful to recover!? I regretted having the sleeve the whole three days in the hospital but now home I feel much better. I'm still in a lot if pain but its getting less and less. I guess its not any help not being able to take any pain meds. I had to get of those hours after surgery because of bad reactions. I have some questions though and I hope being on a support site you all can help. I'm on full liquids and I was wondering if the bottled Isopure is better than drinking the powder. Also, my chewable Calcium has fructose in it. Is that bad? I was told that people don't feel hungry for like the first year but I have never lost my hunger. Have been starving since right after surgery. The hunger pains go away quickly after drinking something though. And one more thing...totally gross but it has to be said; I had my first bowel movement today and it was a burning, yellow, oily, mess. Is that fat? I would greatly appreciate any help :) Thanks!

I am 4 days post op. My pain is managed by pain meds. Maybe they could give you a suppository pain med because you need something. I am hungry a lot also. Mine doesn't go away with a little liquid though. Wish I could eat something crunchy. I don't think it matters about the chewable Vitamin. It's such a minimal amount that you should be okay. Don't know about the BM but it sounds normal to me with all the anesthesia and fluids they give you. I would call the doc and ask because you will feel much better knowing the medical answer. Hang in there. It's not easy but we can do it. It will get better! :)

I like the bottled Isopure better than the powder, but having bought a 3 lb tub of the powder, I'm going to make it work. I've been mixing them ahead of time and freezing them, they go down better ice cold.

I don't use the powders at all. I use the Isopure or premier. Isopure is good, but I cut it with Water and chrystal light to get both the water and the protien in. Another one that I use it the New Whey protien tubes. These are 40g of protien in a very compact tube. It is on the thick side so I cut it with the same flavor of chrystal light water.

Thanks for the advice! I just added ice to my shake and it made it way better! I'll look into the Protein tubes. That's sound good! I would never want to go through that pain again but stepping on the scales today and seeing 13 lbs gone, it does make it all worth it. By next year I'm sure I'll forget all about the pain!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
