Texas Insurance

I've heard that if someone is self pay they buy an extra insurance policy. Anyone do this in Texas and did it pay also which insurances cover the complications from WLS?

All I want to say is I did a 6 month program for my gastric sleeve scheduled 12.18 and Cigna sent a denial letter that I just literally opened because I was not home and it just denied me for the gastric sleeve. Will I not get the surgery now? How can this be? I'm crushed.

How crushing, Jaimy! I hope you can get things sorted! I had a similar situation, personally. I had been working with a bariatric surgeon for about 6 months, going through his program, talking with the NUT and doing the Psych evals, once I was cleared by him, I had to wait until my husbands insurance changed so i could apply to our new insurance for WLS. I applied, and found out that his insurance specifically EXCLUDED any type of WLS. It was a provision they had just put in that year. I was crushed! I had worked so hard! I had a talk with my surgeons scheduler, and she told me I could self pay, but the band (which is what I thought I wanted then) would be $12,000. I was blown away! I actually started doing more research and decided I wanted the sleeve and asked her how much that would be, $18,000!! I thought I would never have surgery. I accidentally ran across a thread about self pay in Mexico, and I did TONS of research. The end of my story is, I found ALighterMe, and was connected with Dr. Lopez. I had my surgery in Tijuana, Nov 3rd, a little over 2 years after I had started my journey. It was a wonderful experience and one I would not change for the world. My surgery was $4,750. That included 3 nights stay in a Marriott, transportation to and from the airport, and of course all of the medication, hospital stay, anesthesia, everything. It was the best decision I had made in my life, and one I would make over again in a heartbeat. Self pay in Mexico may not be for you, but if you think it might be, PLEASE contact me and ask me any questions, I would love to be a resource for you. Just know, where there's a will, there's a way!! Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
