can you eat popcorn????

Recommended Posts

I am sure everyone has slightly different instructions from their doctor, but you should probably stay away from pop corn and other solids til you are healed a little more. I went to the movies at about the same time, and I just took the little cup of icing my husband had to dip his cinnamon pretzel in and had a few licks of that. It wasn't as good as popcorn and candy, but that kind of stuff is what got me in this posistion to start with! :D Good luck!

Corn is a carbohydrate (a starch) and therefore shouldn't be on anyone's menu if they are wanting to lose weight. Carbohydrate that turns into instant sugar in the body. Carbs are what got most of us in trouble in the first place. They create a craving for more carbs and just simply are not worth it for just a few minutes pleasure (like a lot of other unrelated things in life that cause us sorrow, I guess.)

I can eat it. I also eat a high carb diet - mainly wholegrain carbs though, I stay away from the processed stuff apart from rare treats, and I've lost plenty of weight.

I eat it. I buy the Smart Pop microwave pkgs and then spray with ICBINB (zero calories). It's pretty low cal. I have to be careful, though and not eat it too fast. I had chili for lunch one day, then some popcorn a bit later. I ate too much and ended up barfing chili-flavored popcorn. YUK!

I'd highly suggest that you not try popcorn in your diet at this early stage. It smells so good in the movie theatre, and is so very inticing! You probably have no fill in your band at this time....so any restriction you have is from the surgery and swelling in the abdomen area. Give that tummy time to heal before trying popcorn hun, it hurts when it comes up on ya ..and could damage what you've done been through. It's just not worth taking the chance now, is it?

The easiest part is behind you, the hard part will begin when you try to get the proper fill adjustment for you! We are all different...in that repect. Good luck and God's guidance in your journey...Dreamer

I'm six weeks postop, on a full diet, and I have eaten popcorn with no problem. Perhaps it'll be challenging once I've had a fill, but right now it is no problem. SCD

I read about all of the people on here that could eat it so I thought I would try those 100 calorie packs. I popped one and took one bite. The popcorn was dry, but I chewed it to mulch. I was so scared that I did not enjoy it. Although it did not get stuck I decided the fear of getting stuck was not worth eating that popcorn.

I love popcorn and eat it at least once a week. I tried it when I was about 8 weeks out and had no problems whatsoever. As for the carbs, I don't think you should swear off of popcorn forever just because of the carbs. I personally believe everything is fine in moderation. I know I didn't get my band to diet. I don't count calories, carbs, points, Protein or anything else and am doing just fine and losing the recommended 1-2 pounds a week. So, with that said, give your tummy time to heal and when the doctor says its ok, try some of that popcorn!

(The only substitute I could think of, for popcorn could maybe something like crunchy nuts, etc.)

But I like the old-fashion movie popcorn - I just don't overdo it.

Popcorn - at one week Post-op? No way, but I suspect you knew that.

Honestly I snack on  at the movies, every few weeks or months (depending on how the weather is... I go to the movies more when the weather isn't so good. When it's nice and warm, I usually find other things to do.) When I get popcorn, I usually get a Kids size at the theatre. Kids Meals often come with a drink & a snack-size candy (I don't like candy) so just give the little candy pack away.

I can tell how restricted (or under-restricted) I am, by how much I can crunch.

So my only advice is if/when you try it later, then chew, chew, chew. Enjoy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
