5 Days Post-Op, 1 Lb A Day?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Nov 26. I am only losing 1 lb a day. Is this normal? I keep reading other people are 10 days and 22 lbs down post op etc. Please help! Thanks!

Relax! 1lb a day!!! That's phenomenal! That's 7lbs in a week! You absolutely cannot compare yourself to others. We all lose at different rates depending on so many things. 1lb a day is great and you should be happy. However, don't freak out if it slows down in the next week or so. You will lose, some are just slower than others!

Easier said than done, but please try not to compare yourself to others. Are you sure the 22lbs does not include their pre-op loses? Have you read all the threads about people gaining weight or only losing a pound or two a week for the first few weeks after surgery? You are normal and so is your weight loss.

I had surgery Nov 28 and I had lost 15 lbs pre-op. Weighed myself today and I gained 5 lbs during the surgery. This is very depressing to me. My diabetes did not go away, gained back some of the pre-op weight. Please explain why this happened.

My suggestion is to not weigh yourself until you get to the 2 week mark. After surgery you have lots of gas and swelling, so there is really no way to know exactly where you until some of has had the opportunity to leave. It may take several weeks for your diabetes to even itself out, your just had your surgery I think the focus should be on healing and staying hydrated. Trust me the weight comes off, we all have our different rates of weight loss.

OAN: By the time you get to month 3, it seems that everyone has a significant loss! Something to look forward to. (Smile)

The surgery is not a magical, overnight, solution. It takes time!! My doctor always said to me, "you did not get your health issues, and your weight problem overnight. It took time. So it will take time to resolve itself. But, it will resolve itself. Just give it time."

In a couple of month, when you are down, 50lbs, then it will be magical. lol

I didn't lose any weight the first week, so I'd say you're doing pretty good!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
