So this is day 5 out of 14 of my liquid diet. I also can have a light meal, 2 fruits and 1 starch although I have only had the starch once and a fruit once to try to keep the carbs down although I accidentally drank a little of my daughter's regular lemonade until I realized it was not my crystal light. I don't mind this diet at all. I don't want to do it gor the rest of my life, but it does make decisions of what to eat and self-control easier when I think about the weight I need to lose and that I do not want to mess anything up so I can't have my surgery. I am a little hungry at times but it is not that bad and does go away. It is not as bad as when I was on Weight Watchers and worrying how I can do this for the rest of my life. This feels just temporary because once i have the sleeve, I will have the restriction from that to help me. And it is very motivating to have lost 7 1/2 pounds in 4 days and makes me hopeful for the next few days. I would like to lose about 5 1/2 more by surgery. It would be nice to lose more but I am trying to be realistic.

Caroline

I am on Pre op diet day 2....I wake up each morning and say today will be the fattest day I will ever be for the rest of my life. That gives me the motivation to be strong.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
