Sleeved In Mx, Follow Up In Houston?

Recommended Posts

Anyone get sleeved in MX and have follow ups in Houston? One of my incisions have opened about a half inch wide and a fourth inch deep. My pcp won't look at it and advised me to go to ER. I don't want to pay to go the ER if I don't have to!

Did you not discuss post op care with your PCP prior to having the surgery? Who is going to provide local follow-up care for you in the future? If you cannot find a physician for this current issue then a visit to the ER may be necessary. If not that then try one of the clinics associated wit CVS or HEB although I'd imagine they might be hesitant to step in at this point either. As a last resort, try an independent physician/clinic, you see them around town, I believe they perform simple visits and require cash payment up front. Good luck and please post with an update.

If your PCP won't help, urgent care is much cheaper. Also, look online for free clinics in your area. They are staffed by volunteer physicians, You may have to wait awhile, but it's cheap. Oh, and get a new PCP. There are plenty of family practice or primary care physicians who will see you after VSG. It's your health and your money.

Try Dr. Duke Vu 281-999-7601

Alexander Family Medicine

13420 State Highway 249 Suite I

Houston, TX 77086

They used to take walk ins and have weekend hours. He is a great physician that really cares about the people in his practice. He is also really compassionate when you don't have insurance. He doesn't run expensive, unneeded testing and helps people find the least expensive medications. His cash price for an office visit was $55, and they also take insurance and would often charge me less than my regular copay. You will be seen more quickly if you make an appointment than if you walk in.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
