Recommended Posts

Stupid me ate a few oreos last night thinking not a big deal its been forever since I had something sweet. But now I woke up with my stomach and intestines in gut wretching pain and full of painful gases. I asure you thats the last time I try to eat something with sugar in it but sheesh I wonder why I am having such a painful responce its not like I had bypass. Going to lay on my belly and groan horribly with my Mylanta check your responces in a bit.

Hey Gummie. It's funny you mention bowel pain and gas related to sugar. I have been having that on occasion, too and wondered if it was diet related? My weight loss has stalled at 178.4. I have been here for over 2 weeks with no budging! Anyhow, you really gave me something to think about.

When this happens to me, I get good relief from Aloe Vera juice. I'll drink 3-4 ounces and it seems to settle things well.

This bowel discomfort, which I hope is diet related, makes me paranoid there's something wrong with my band. I have been banded about 18 months and it's time for an endoscope. I need to get that done so I don't worry about every little odd sensation being an eroded band! haha. Let's hope not! How long have you been banded?

Also, do the Child's Pose (yoga) where you sit on your knees and lay forward with your hands stretched forward. I pull my knees way apart so my still-big belly doesn't squish on my legs. Anyhow, it helps *release* the gas. Okay, it helps you fart. :D There, I said it! Good luck, I'll check back in on you!

Denise,

Funny you should mention this shoulder pain. I was banded on July 28, 2006 and the only time I had pain was right after surgery and then when I would eat a little too much. I would get a slight pain in my shoulder. Well, I had my first fill Oct. 7 and all went well until this past Monday. I have had left shoulder pain and it's there even when I drink. I was told that I probably have irritation and that I need to go on liquids for a few days, so I'm doing that. Today I spoke with my doc's assistant and she said that it's possible that I've irritated it so much (who knows why...stress, etc.) that I may need a slight unfill. So, if this continues, and you've had a fill, you should probably ask the doc to remove some. You could try a few days of liquids and see if that helps. I'm making sure I mix in the Protein and having a Protein Drink (Nectar) in the am. I was making a chocolate Protein Shake for Breakfast, but thought maybe the chocolate and milk were irritating my tummy. If your pain is just after you eat, you are probably eating too much. That's what happened to me when I tried to push in that extra bite. This even happened when I was on mushies.

Hope this helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
