4 Days Post Op... Advice?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was just sleeve Monday 11/26. I am 4 days post op and am looking for any advice you can give me. I get so full so easily. I was looking forward to soft queso fresco for lunch that I cut off an oz and left the cheese on the counter CONVINCED I would need to cut off more. I got a little under half way through and even that was pushing it. I am ridiculously full still and I ate this over an hour ago. : ( I love cheese but : ) restriction.

Any advice on how to survive the first few weeks? I am on soft foods and am drinking optimum nutrition 100% soy Protein. My dad is concerned that I am not eating much, he is the one who bought the cheese specifically to encourage me to eat more.

Any advice for Water intake? I can get in about 20 oz and 6 oz protein in a day.

And any advice for walking? I am perhaps lazy but I just do laps in my house and get tired so fast. And I break a sweat so fast as well.

Thanks for the help!!!!

Perhaps the cheese is pushing it. But it's soooo tasty! I think I'll switch over to non fat cottage cheese.

My surgeon bumped me up to all liquid (which includes yogurt and cottage cheese) when I left the hospital. The cheese is the only exception I've made given that my dad is looking at me as though I'm a weirdo for eating 2 bites and done.

I can tell you that I've seen a lot of people, including myself that become lactose intolerant after getting sleeved. So it may be too soon for the cheese. I was able to get a soft boiled egg in after 2 weeks, but only a spoonful or two. U will get full on a few bites. U can try and space out your meals every few hours and drink your fluids in between. I know, easier said then done.

I had my sleeve on 11/26 also, and I am on liquids until Monday, then Puree foods. The gas is what's killing me. I have been walking but its a beast (the gas). Is there anything I ca do about that. Jack's Mommy, stick to your liquids, all the others will come in due time. Oh and sometimes I just feel tired, but I am not dehydrated I have been getting my fluids in. So what is all that about.

I wake up dizzy and feeling so out of it. So I drink Water and it seems to help. My NUT told me that dehydration is the top reason why people end up back at the hospital. Water water water as much as you can. It does get better. I went from a 1/4 tsp sip to a tablespoon sip. So I'm pretty happy. Plus I finally smiled for the first time since surgery yesterday. : D

Need your Dr. and NUT :D

I'm on liquids and protien shakes for 2 weeks (sleeved 11/20), then purees for 2 weeks, then softies for 2 weeks. I get solids on New Years day. I wouldn't eat right now, I want that seam to seal up, the swelling to go down and every thing work properly.

My prescribed protien intake is 60g and Water intake is 60oz. I can get the Protein down no problem, but the Water, I'm hitting about 48oz. Just can't keep running to LBR constantly.

I dont think I'm getting enough fluids in. 20 oz of protien and 16 oz of Water. It takes all night to get that down. oh and popsicles.

Are you taking anything like Nexium or Zegrid?

I suggest not eating something because someone wants you to do it. Stick with the program. You will be better off for doing that.

Yeah, I know. But my dad is just trying to help. The cheese is soft enough that my NUT said it was fine but still. I'll be switching to cottage cheese though. That stuff is amazing too lol

Try a heating pad on your stomach for the gas! And don't worry, I am 4 weeks post op today, you can start to get a feel for what you can eat and drink as the days go one.

I could only get through 1/4 of an up and go in my first 2 weeks and even now for some reason about half - I'm 6 weeks post op and potentially it's because all Protein shakes now make me gag lol

I enjoyed cottage cheese, found it went down easily

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
