Got Cocky, Messed Up!

Recommended Posts

Over 8 months out and I've been a very good girl. I've only had the slimes twices, and have not thrown up since surgery. I almost never take one bite too many. I obey "the gurgle" which is my warning sign to stop.

Except last night...

Today is hubby's birthday and since I still enjoy cooking and baking, last night I made him a cake of his request, oatmeal Cake. Delicious stuff!!

First mistake was to have dessert immediately after dinner, which was about 3 - 4 oz filet mignon and less than half cup of green vegetable.

Second mistake was to allow hubby, not sleeved, to cut my piece of cake. In he carried a HUGE man-sized portion. My comment to him was, "I could never eat all THAT!"

Third mistake was, I ate all that. It was soft and warm and so delicious, and it just slid right down without resistance. The gurgle failed to happen.

Five minutes later, I was sick. Very sick. I felt like that cake had grown to 20 times its original size. I was so sick I was afraid. I had to sit very quietly in the dark, and finally just went to bed. While in bed, the slimes started, so I got up to go to the bathroom.

Finally I threw up several times and got relief.

Lessons learned:

  1. Wait a while to have dessert.
  2. Cut your own piece of dessert.
  3. Cut your own piece very small. You can always get more if you can hold it.
  4. Throwing up doesn't produce nearly as much output as it used to!

Guess I just got too comfortable and got my come-uppance!

I lol'd at "I ate all that" and I think you're funny. Lol

That said, I'm sorry, that sounds miserable. (Hug)

Oh my could I relate! :-)

2 months out, we were on vacation and visiting friends. Had a WONDERFUL dessert.......only took 4 bites and it was 4 bites too many. No foaming (same as sliming), thought I was doing great...20 minutes later I was wondering if I was going to be able to make it through the night! I finally threw up and felt better, but I was begining to wonder if I had accidently committed death by chocolate! OOOOOOOO how I can relate and will NOT do that again, at least for a while :-)

I also LOL'd at I ate all that! I wish I had had this problem! I had the slimes and vomiting yesterday just from taking my Iron pill!!! Your oatmeal cake sounds much better than that!

Sorry this happened but lesson learned.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
