Well, it takes a week or two for your insurance to approve once they have sent in your fulfilled requirements. Then the office will call you to schedule your procedure. They could have squeezed me in within a week and a half... I opted to go in January. They're scheduling 3-4 weeks out at this point (as far as I know). It was longer in my case due to the holidays. Doctors deserve vacation, too. :)

I had my surgery by Dr. Carauana? He is absolutely wonderful. About 12 years ago, before he became a bariatric surgeon he did an emergency surgery and removed my gall bladder while I was just 3 months pregnant. Today I have a beautiful 12 year old young lady. So when it was time to research who was going to do my surgery, I didn't hesitate when I saw he was now doing bariatric surgery. In terms of timing when I completed my workshops with Ann Marie, I waited about a good month to get my schedule. The crazy part was once I got my date, about 5 days before surgery, I got bronchitis....in the summer! It got rescheduled and they were going to fit me I. A cancelation spot but my primary physician wanted me to wait 10 days. I finally had my surgery August 14, 2012 and today I am now 33 pounds lighter. I'm 5'4 and weighed 224. My recovery was super easy and even my leak test wasn't so bad and Im A gagger! Yuk! Good luck to you all!

I live in the city as well!

Happy New Year, buffalonians! Pammie-- have you gotten a date yet?? I received insurance approval the day Caruana's office submitted for it! I was approved on 12/18 and scheduled for their first available opening which was on 2/6, to give you an idea of the time frame. I start my pre-op liquid diet the day after my birthday so the date works perfectly for me haha. I have the pre-op exercise class (ughhh) on 1/22 (although I think I'm going to switch to the 1/15 class due to my work schedule), then I have to have a medical clearance appt with my primary, then sisters hospital will schedule me for their pre-op testing. So many appointments! Glad Synergy is so thorough though.

He is doing my surgery on January 2nd! :D I love him so far!

Bekkamy,

Dr. Carauana is absolutely wonderful! While I was in the hospital, I was supposed to have a leak test before they could increase my food I take to a liquid diet instead of just plain Water....Dr. Carauana ordered the exam in the morning and then he can back late afternoon to check up on me and asked how did my test go. When I told him I was still waiting, he made a phone call and literally 10 minutes later I had my test done. I was in hospital 2 1/2 days and no complications. He's an excellent doctor and I trust him wholeheartedly. My best to you tomorrow!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
