Dr. Houston did my surgery Oct. 29, 2012. He is rather abrupt & not a very joking man. I work in the medical field & knew going in that most surgeons can have difficult attitudes. He was about what I expected. But my thoughts were, he can have any kind of attitude that he wants as long as he brings me out of it alive!! A little over a month out, 20+ lbs lost & no complications whatsoever. I would highly recommend him :) hope this helps. Good luck!!

He went in with intentions of keeping me longer than normal, because I live @2.5 hrs away...but...I was doing so great I went home early :) I went in on a Monday & was home on Wednesday. I work at a different hospital, but I would highly recommend the women's hospital at centennial over just about any other!! All of the people are wonderful!!

Well I live just down the road so I wonder how long he will keep me! Did it take you long to schedule your surgery (as in, did he have a long waiting list? I completed the online seminar today and the health questionnaire, so now I guess I am waiting for them to call me back! :) I hope to do it in January.

I think the normal stay time is 2-3 days & hospitals are weird, they count days by the number of nights you stay. I "think" Dr. Houston's surgeries are usually scheduled at least a month out. It all depends on what kind of hoops your insurance co requires. I lucked up. I had to have the surgery consult, psych eval, & nutritional eval..all for ins req. Dr. Houston just wanted me to lose as much weight as possible prior. My work was a pain in the butt about letting me have time off as well. All my pre surg apts were done June-July & surgery scheduled Oct. 29.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
