Nope, no soda for me ever again. My surgeon said carbonation can stretch the sleeve. And I don't plan to experiment to see if that's true. I will take my surgeon's word on it.

I also was told no more soda ever since ur can stretch your sleeve. I'm not willing to test it out to find out whether or not its true!

My nut said , it is painful from the gas expansion while healing ! Once healed in moderation it is ok, it is very difficult to stretch sleeve . They remove the stretchy material of stomach and make your sleeve out of the harder part of stomach

My surgeon told me I could have pop. Does anyone else drink it?

I was told i should not drink it.. I had a small sip and felt like i was going to explode.. I kinda panicked and kept patting my chest like a baby to burp it up

My NUT has said during both pre and post op support groups that drinking soda is not a good idea. It is not only because of the carbonation, but she also said it is a gateway for some to fall back into old destructive eating habits.

My surgeon is of the "no soda ever" crowd. I'm ok with that, regardless of the reason.

It's true that it can cause gas pains, especially when you are so fresh post op. however the farther you are out the more it is tolerated. that forant mean its the best choice for you. it was explained to me that it is not so much that it stretches the stomach permanently, it that the carbonation stretches the stomach when it is in there and creates a larger space, which allows you to put more food in it, and ultimately gain weight back, and set yourself up for bad habits again. This is an opportunity to change bad habits that can lead to weight gain again. So it's more a choice you have to make, in my opinion it's self sabotage to even rationalize it.

No soda for me ever again, which is fine with me.

Now beer...that is a crying shame.

I will absolutely be compliant. I didn't run around being fat and unhealthy for 44 years to go through the expense and pain of surgery, the recovery and the change in relationship with food, just to sabotage myself back to where I was before. That would be insane.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
