Dr. Ortiz? Yay Or Nay?

Recommended Posts

What can you tell me about him? Besides that he's BEAUTIFUL!? And what about the Obesity Control Center, is that a clinic or a hospital?

All things, please!

Well, I tried to delete this thread but I guess that isn't an option? Dr. Ortiz isn't in the price range I was hoping for

I smiled at your post...I felt that way about Dr. Alvarez, he was my first choice..alas, too pricey as I was too impatient to wait the extra time to save up his surgery fee :)

Yes.. Dr. Ortiz is very handsome... I call him the silver fox!!!! But that man changed my life and I am a true advocate!!! He and his staff are simply amazing and he is worth every penny if not more!!! He is charging 6500 for the sleeve now where I paid 7k in April. 2 grand is a small difference when you think about what he charges versus what the cheapo doctors charge! Think about who you are putting your life in the hands of.... is 2 grand really that big of a deal??? Wasn't for me! :)

Good Luck!!!

#1 - Aren't there 2 Dr. Ortiz(s)?

#2 - Cheapo doctors? (insert head spin, neck roll, teeth suck..lol) - Just wondering, where are the cheapo doctors? Last time I checked, none of them are cheap!

#3 - $2,000 is a big difference. Could I pay it? Sure. Are there more qualified surgeons with a lower price? Yes

No matter how many posting you read, you will ultimately have to make the decision yourself. Figure out why the surgeon is $2k more that others and if the reason is valid (in your opinion), then you should consider if its affordable.

Hugs! No one should be able to say this decision is easy!

Dr. Ariel Ortiz was my surgeon. He has received numerous accolades and honors and practices in an "International Center of Excellence". Plus he was voted one of the best Bariatric surgeons by Newsweek magazine. I consider the cheapo doctors the ones around the $4500.00 mark. As far as their qualifications?? All I can say is do your research and make a decision that YOU feel comfortable with. Personally, It wasn't just about price for me... I was flying 4 thousand miles for my surgery and it was about my entire experience and the experience of my mother who was traveling with me. As far as cheap price?? When you consider how much the difference is between paying in the US versus Mexico... Yes... Mexico is a hell of a lot cheaper!! The 7k that I paid was the best money that I have ever spent. Sit back and think about how much you pay for food now, going out to eat etc... 2 grand should be a drop in the bucket.... Just my opinion!!

No one on this site has produced the Newsweek article. Maybe I should ask him for it.

Amytug and I have discussed this in private awhile ago - ultimately, I agree. Research. But don't discredit a surgeon because he is competitively priced either.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I've heard that the doctors have to pay to be in Newsweek. Most of the doctors that have been listed in Newsweek are the higher priced doctors. Maybe it's another way of advertising? I don't know... Just a thought.

I hear he is a wonderful surgeon. But he is not an island. There are many surgeons in many price ranges who are excellent and many who are not. You haven't used the other surgeons so don't write them off due their price, please.

Just google him and the center. He is on Face book too. He does have a huge following. Check out you tube.

I also heard he was on CNN and Oprah. When I have time I will see if I can find the clip.

I think there are many awesome surgeons in Mexico. You just have to do what is right for you period.

I am still looking at all options. You have feel good and comfy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
