It's hard to tell you what to do if you're not ready for surgery, but I can tell you that it's the best thing I ever did for myself! I'm grateful I took the step. Good luck with your decision!!

I probably have no place chiming in lol but what has been your plan?

I would try lowering the carbs significantly, getting rid of junk, protn @ every meal, low to moderate fats, and exercise 3-5 x per week to see what happens. Sugar and these simple carbs are a problem - surgery or not.

And this surgery is a tool to assist..so if you find you need the assitance than...do what you gotta do. lol

Keep researching and reading!

Best of luck to you!

I would ask what has been your history of dieting? Have you ever been successful at a diet? Have you ever been able to lose weight and keep it off? Would you say you have issues with your relationship with food?

I'm just guessing there are more stories out there in the world from people who have been overweight, have lost, through some type of program and kept it off or kept it at what they deem a reasonable level than there are stories of people who have had successful WLS. It really depends on you and your story. Not our perception of your story.

I know my story ... more than a half dozen diets over a couple dozen years where I lost weight, but my poor relationship with food allowed my weight to go higher than it was before. I needed a permanent solution to my problem and a tool to help me manage my weight. The sleeve provided that for me. But know that with the sleeve, your fundamental relationship with food changes. And not for a couple weeks or months ... it's a permanent, non-reversable change.

Well my whole life i have struggled with weight !!! I love sports and i do believe i love food, i am an emotional eater!!!! From 19-20 i had my weight a under control by dieting and going to the gym , i also was single and no children no bills no responsibilities!!!! Once i had my son i have tried low carb diets , I've tried a program here in town that provides pills to control hunger, i do it for a week and then i get frustrated and quit!!! I also started the insanity and felt with great energy but i get unmotivated and stop!!!! Im scared for my health but its just so hard !!!!

The surgery was the best decision I have ever made. Its changed everything. How I eat, act, exercise, cook... There are so many reasons that I cant even begin to name. Maybe a good suggestion is to write down the pros and cons...and see which one looks better?

My only regret was not doing this soon. As the weight fell off, my motivation went off the charts. Once you see the difference in you... ya cant sit still ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
