Anyone Who Has Acid Problems After Vsg

Recommended Posts

I know this could be acid and I'm going to run it by my surgeon at my next follow-up on 12-13 but anyone who has gone on prilosec or any other PPI since surgery let me know if this is what you felt, please.

The last few days I've gotten up in the morning and I can't tell if I'm hungry or full and my stomach feels a little sore and raw and I tend to be a little bloated. Eating doesn't help get rid of the feeling so I think it's either acid or maybe just some part of the healing process. I know the 1st 2.5 weeks I didn't have any feeling of hunger so this is different. I did take a Zantac 150 today and after about an hour my stomach felt better (however I had finished a Protein Shake as well), but the feeling only lasted about 2 hours and it came back. I can only take Zantac 150 twice a day - so I am going to ask my surgeon about this on my 12/13 visit.

I know I may have to go on a PPI but I don't want to self prescribe especially since it feels very different than acid indigestion before surgery.

Please let me know if any of you had these feelings. Thanks so much.

I am only in my 3rd week out, but my doctor put me on a type of prilosec (It's in spanish since I had my sleeve done in Mexico) and told me to take 1 in the morning and 1 at night for 60 days. Wondering if you had done the same in the beginning? I imagine that acid problems could crop up down the road as well. Could you call the dr. and see what he recommends? You could also just try a 14 day round of prilosec or something like that and see if it calms things down. I had the lap band prior to the sleeve and certain times of year, etc. would cause me to have some acid reflux and I would do a round of prilosec and usually that took care of it. Previous to my surgery I was having a lot of acid reflux and the doctor told me to do the 1 in the morning and 1 at night to prepare for the revision. After a couple weeks my stomach settled down.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
