Doriana 0 Posted October 20, 2006 Hello, I have a consultation booked next week. A couple of years ago, the doctor found a very small hital hernia. Would this stop me from getting the lap band? Thank you, DMiele.:phanvan
Randi 0 Posted October 20, 2006 Doriana, I have a hiatal hernia and posted a similar question a while back. From what I've learned on this board, hiatal hernias can be repaired during lapband placement. There are a few LBTers who didn't even know they had hiatal hernias until after they woke up from surgery. So having a hiatal hernia doesn't necessarily prevent the lapband from being placed, but your surgeon may want to run some tests to be sure.
leatha_g 4 Posted October 20, 2006 Just be sure to let him know you've had one diagnosed in the past. Sometimes they miss them and this can cause you more problems as it relates to the band than fixing it.

FullofGRACE 0 Posted October 22, 2006 I concur...I've having Lap on 11/10 and I've spent like 20 hours out here I've read in several places that people who had hiatal hernias had them repaired at surgery...so hey that looks like a great twofer to me Good luck and welcome! Iluvharleys 15 Posted October 22, 2006 I had one but didn't know it. The doctor went out and told my DH he would have to repair it or he couldn't band me. I had both done at the same time.
