Plastic Surgery Related Questions.. Help Pls!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm 10 months post and have lost around 110 lbs so far -- which translates into LOADS of excess skin. I met with the surgeon last week and he said I can have all the 'tucks' and 'lifts' that I need in February. I'm super thrilled.

I have so many questions I dont know where to start LOL! I know many of the veterans would have had plastic surgery done once they reached their goals. I would love to hear all of your opinions about these:

1. My surgeon said I was eligible for arm lift, thigh lift, breast lift and Tummy Tuck. I'm planning to have it all done at the same time. I dont think I'll be able to do it in stages because

a. the cost for separate procedures is a major issue for me

b. I'm not sure if I'll have the confidence to go through one more procedure at a later time

c. the surgeon promised me that he had performed this combination of surgeries many times and it is not a problem

d. I will not get an extended time off from my work to get the procedure done in stages.

Is it too risky to have all the procedures done at one sitting? Has anyone undergone multiple tucks/lifts at the same time?

2. How long did you stay out of work after the surgery?

3. How was the pain? I know everyone will react differently to the surgery but as VST was my first ever surgery and it was a keyhole surgery, I dont have anything to relate the pain to.

4. If you had had the plastic surgery(ies) done more than 6 months ago, how are the scars healing? What can I expect at around 6 months, say? I am not too concerned about the scars right now because I will pick scars over excess weight any day. But I'm just curious about what to expect.

5. How long did you have to wear compression garments/support clothing?

6. If you had tummy tuck: were you advised to take laxatives/stool softener at the beginning after surgery?

7. I'm sorry if this question is inappropriate here: what is a safe waiting period after tummy tuck to have sex.

I know this is a lot of questions. Sorry! :)

I would wonder, ok.. How am i going to move around. Remember, you're thighs will have stitches.. Your arms, tummy, breast.. That's allot of incisions. How will you be able to go potty with your arms in stitches. Stuff like that makes me wonder.

People do this all the time. Go to YouTube and look up Kellawanda. She may be a member here, but I don't remember seeing her on here since I've been around.

She recently had a lower body lift, fat transfer to butt and the arm thing, all at once. She has put up videos from prior to her VSG surgery through reaching goal through having all that plastic surgery done at once. She does a great job of telling it like it is. Go watch. She's a real inspiration.

For me my concern will be what is my support during the healing process. Yes, everything is possible BUT for me i would first want to know what type of support will i have at home. You need you're arms to do things and your legs to move around. I'm all for getting it over and done with, but fearful of biting off a little more than i can chew

I wondered the same thing too. But I've seen ppl getting arm lift and thigh lift at the same time - so I think they manage somehow. But my main problem is the Tummy Tuck. I'm so afraid that I would damage the recovery if I try to push too harder when I go potty. I will ask my doc if that is possible and what I should do to prevent it. Maybe I need to go back to a liquid diet for a week or so - idk!

Thank you so much for your reply! I loved browsing through Kellawanda's videos. She has really done a great service to all of us showing her progress periodically. I'm going to subscribe to her channel and try to ask her some questions about the tummy tuck.

My mom and sis will be with me. Mom will be with me the whole time, so I have help to move around. My real concern is for the pain. I dont know what to expect and it is driving me crazy! :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
