Help- Hair Is Falling Out

Recommended Posts

Well the good news is...I've lost 50 lbs in 3 months. The bad news is...my hair is starting to fall out. I'll admit I haven't done very well eating well and taking my Vitamins. I bought some pre-natal vitamins (bcuz I remember how great my hair and nails were when prego) with Biotin and a juicer to get maximum nutrition. I guess my question now is, once the shedding has begun, is there a way to stop it and how long until it grows back????

I knew this was a possibilty but I'm not liking it!

So, this was a major concern for me as I already have semi fine hair. The key is to take all of your Vitamins and minerals in. They say that some light Hair loss is normal since your body has gone through this sort of shock but it will improve with diet and nutrition. Good luck!

It's normal for a sleeve patient to initially lose 30-40% of their hair. It's gonna happen. No miracle Shampoo or cure. The only thing to help is to stick with your Vitamins and Protein before it starts to fall out. Otherwise you bite the bullet and just wait for it to grow back :)

No way to stop it. The breakage is from when you were first sleeved and your body reserves it's supply to keep going it's just long enough now where the strands are starting to break. It wil grow back but try not to wash it too often or mess with it a lot, will keep those strands around longer.

Actually not washing it a lot makes it fall more... hair grts more grease etc ive asked around so its not a good idea.. If u wash it more often and take care of it it fall less... Anyway when u dont wash it it still falls out even if u think it doesnt.. Massaging tha scalp when washing it actually helps

I started loosing my hair at the 3 month mark I am now 5 months out as of Monday! Honestly I didn't use Vitamins or Biotin, I used a Shampoo called nioxin, I have really fine hair and just this last week I've notice it falling out less!

They say the good quality shampoo helps with not leaving a greasy film on your hair and it lasts a long time, I use it everyday and don't think I will change, before when I used Pantene or stuff like that I had to change shampoos every 2 weeks, so my hair didn't feel greasy, I have used Nioxin for 2 months straight and haven't had a problem with it! You can find it at a salon or a salon outlet store!

It might be something to try, I'm dreading seeing my hair dresser next week, I can't wait for it to come in, hope it does soon:)

Hope you find something that works!

In Cosemetology school and with my clients I've seen and been taught first-hand that excessive washing WILL break and further damage hair. Every other day is a perfectly healthy washing schedule. In fact, recommended by for the upkeep of thin and damaged hair. ESPECIALLY if you're using some craptastic pharmacy Shampoo. The placenta and wax in those are more damaging than natural oil could ever be.

I agree that not everyday but every other day is a good washing schedule i was pointing out that waiting more than that which is what i thought she meant by not washing it that frequently.. I didnt say she should wash it every single day.. What i meant by not waiting long between washes because it will fall more was not to wait maybe 4 days or something, i dont consider washing it every other day to be a bad thing

I was sleeved 8/21. Had long thick hair. Always take Vitamins, Protein, Biotin, drink my Water. I wash my hair about every 3 days with high quality Shampoo bcs I have dry skin/scalp. Last month it started falling out and I now have some bald spots. It will grow back and i'm wearing cute winter hats in the meantime. But i'm sick of all the long blonde hair everywhere! It's worse than my dogs shedding. So today i'm going in to get a pixie cut.

I, like many others before & after me, will lose hair no matter what we do. I've embraced it as part of my 'shedding' of my old life.

Remember it's not because those hair follicles aren't growing it's that their strands are weak so the more you mess with them, the more they break. You will see short spiky hairs growing in their place. I only wash mine when necessary maybe twice a week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
