Dec 1 Will Be 4 Months Since My Surgery

Recommended Posts

I just found out about this site yesterday from a friend of mine. I have spent some time reading some threads and am totally inspired by the stories.

When I graduated high school I weighed 150lbs. Slowly over the last 26 years I started packing on the pounds. I was no longer as active as I use too. Just started not caring.

I have been married for 20 years to a wonderful woman. I have two boys (15 & 12). My boys are very active and I could not keep up with them. Also I knew my wife loved me but she just wasn't in to me as before.

In March of this year I visited my doc. Last year I was diagnosed hypertensive and then found out I was diabetic. My doc suggested that I needed to change things or I would be dead by 50 ( I'm 47).

So I started thinking seriously about surgery. I'm an RN and I only saw the complications, never saw the success stories. I finally decided to talk to a surgeon. He suggest I go to a post op support group before I made a decision. I was totally shocked and encouraged by the people I met. Their stories helped make a decision.

At the start of the whole process I weighed 321. That was in May. I had my sleeve on Aug 1. Saturday will be four months and as of this morning I weigh 230 lbs.

This surgery saved my life. I have more energy. I can do more push ups then my oldest son. I am training to do a 5K run on Dec 15 and it feels great to be running again. I am also off all my meds, just taking Vitamins.< /p>

I go to the gym before work in the morning 5 days a week. I do not get those looks I use to get when I went out. It is nice to go clothes shopping and not have to go to the big and tall section. Most of all my wife likes what she sees again.

I do not regret for one minute my decision to have the sleeve. It has not been easy with the eating. I still have carvings for the foods that caused me my problems. I have been learning to keep doing what I am doing. I stay away from fast foods, pop, and (sob) beer. I eat so healthy that my sons still stare at me in comical disbelief.

My wife is my greatest supporter. She watches me like hawk when it comes to what I eat. She cooks things for me that is different then the rest of the family. Without her this would be more difficult. My sons are excited for me and all my friends and coworkers.

I am almost to my goal. I never thought I would get there so quickly. I am eating and doing everything I should be and excercising. I wish I would have done this sooner.

To tell you the truth I did not have any pain. My incisions were sore but no pain. When I first woke up I was just nauseated. I was surprised because I am a wimp when it comes to pain.

So it is not very hard and bearable ?

Everyone is different when it comes to pain. For me my post op experience was great. But if you go believing that you are going to be in tremendous pain, you will be. Go in with positive frame of mind. Just remember this is beginning of a new chapter in your life. Things will be different for the good.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
