Slimies- What Does It Feel Like?

Recommended Posts

I've seen it described as excess saliva. Die anyone ever feel like they have (please excuse me cause this is disgusting) a ball of mucus in their throat? I'm actually recovering from a cold, so it could be a symptom of my illness and nothing to do with the surgery.

I'm 5 weeks out, btw.

WARNING this is graphic!! it feels like there is something caught in your throat for up to an hour. It happened to me about half a dozen times. It has not happened for a year luckily. It happened to me when I had beef Jerky, beef roast and chicken-- didn't chew well enough. Your body produces this mucous- clear and dense. Its your body's effort to lubricate the food down (or up)- but your tiny tummy can't take it and you'll up chuck a few giant mucous balls. lol ( reminds me of a small jelly fish)

I feel the exact opposite. I have constant dry mouth which I'm assuming is from being in constant ketosis. I hate that pasty mouth feeling though.

It's exactly how Sleeve of Steel describes it! It's so gross and the worst feeling ever. You so want more than just the mucous to come up but it doesn't!

Thanks for the descriptions! Sounds like what's going on with me. Blah! Yeah, it's a pretty gross feeling. Can't swallow it and it doesn't go back down for awhile. Oh well. I will try to be more careful with what and how quickly I eat.

Thanks again!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
